Demi Lovato began her career at 10 years old when she got the role of Angela on “Barney & Friends” in the early 2000s. Then in 2007, Demi got a part on a short Disney Channel show called “As the Bell Rings.” But, it wasn’t until she landed the starring role of the Disney movie “Camp Rock” that her career skyrocketed.

From this moment on, Demi Lovato became a Disney star. She continued landing roles for movies like “Princess Protection Program” (2009), where she starred alongside her then-best friend Selena Gomez. After this, Demi got her own Disney Channel show called “Sonny with a Chance,” which debuted in 2009. The series became one of Disney Channel’s most popular programs.

And apart from being a Disney child star, she also guest starred on television dramas like “Just Jordan” (2007), “Prison Break” (2006) and “Grey’s Anatomy” (2010).

Besides Demi Lovato being a childhood actress, she also has a voice of an angel. Seriously.

After first hearing her killer vocals on “Camp Rock,” Demi hasn’t slowed her music career down since. She recorded three songs with the Jonas Brothers for the film’s soundtrack. And then in 2008, she released her first solo album, “Don’t Forget” which debuted at no. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. A year later, she released her second studio album, “Here We Go Again.” The title track reached 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it her first single to reach the top 20.

Then in 2010, while supposed to be on tour with the Jonas Brothers, she dropped out to seek professional help for “emotional and physical issues,” reported PEOPLE. To explain, a source close to Demi told PEOPLE, “She was bullied in school. She fought through eating disorders and has struggled with cutting. … Demi is taking control by getting help.”

Months after completing treatment, Demi released her album “Unbroken,” featuring the platinum song “Skyscraper.” She put out her next record, “Demi,” two years later and that had the best debut week of her music career. Then, her most recent studio album, “Confident,” was released in 2015. It represents everything Demi went through and her progress to self-acceptance.

Cheers to how far you’ve come, Demi!

Demi Lovato has been open about her mental health issues and she uses her platform to spread awareness about it.

As a teen, she struggled with eating disorders, self-harm, a cocaine addiction and alcohol abuse. “I knew at a young age that some of my behaviors were a problem,” she told ELLE. “When I was bulimic, I knew it was a problem. When I was anorexic, I knew it was a problem. But I wasn’t in a place where I could quit by myself.”

But since going to rehab, she’s been able to use her own healing as a source of inspiration. She is now one of the owners of CAST Centers, a mental health and wellness facility where she sought treatment. She also recently partnered with them to host group counseling sessions for fans before each concert.

Lovato is also a the leader of Be Vocal: Speak Up for Mental Health, an initiative that encourages people to share their stories of mental illness.

Thanks, Demi, for being an amazing role model to a lot of young people around the world.

Demi has reached a point in her life where she is confident enough to show some skin. And we’re here for it.

She told Glamour, “Focusing on food and exercise changed my life. Someone said to me recently, ‘You wouldn’t put diesel in a Bentley.’ When you treat your body like a Bentley, you value yourself and you start to look at your body differently. I work out every day or six days a week — that’s what I need to stay stable up here.”

Demi Lovato’s Instagram also contains a lot of images of her showing off her natural curves. She encourages women to not be afraid of the body they were born with because we’re all beautiful.

And that’s something a lot of young women need to hear.

5 She considers herself a feminist.

By empowering women to own their beauty, Demi Lovato considers herself a feminist.  She told Twist Magazine, “What feminism means to me is just standing up for gender equality and trying to empower our youth. And showing women that you can embrace your sexuality.”

Demi says she embraces feminism in her daily life by not telling women or men what they can or cannot do. She believes it’s important to support women and men because it’s all about gender equality.

We couldn’t agree with you more, Demi, and we can’t wait to see where your career and life will take you next!
