ENTITY's shares an explosion scene from "Star Wars - The Force Awakens."

Entertainment empire Disney has just become the first movie studio ever to surpass $7 billion in global box office takings in a single year – but that’s only the start…

Walt Disney Studios is setting its sights on dominating the 2017 box office too with a slate of seemingly surefire hit movies likely to make $8 billion or even more.

With another “Star Wars” movie on the way,  further adventures with Marvel franchises,  more “Pirates of the Caribbean” and a live action remake of “Beauty and the Beast,” next year looks to be an even more dominant one than 2016 when Disney ruled the film business carving out 25 percent of the market share.

Three of the studio’s 2016 releases, “Finding Dory,” “Captain America: Civil War” and “Zootopia” made more than $1 billion each at the global box office while “The Jungle Book” and “Doctor Strange” weren’t far behind. Huge box office takings for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” pushed Disney past the $7 billion landmark on Monday Dec. 19.

“This historic achievement is possible because all of our film studios are bringing their absolute best to the table, telling great stories of all kinds that resonate with audiences across borders, gender, and generations,” studio chairman Alan Horn said in a statement. “These films work because each one has not only something for everyone, but everything for someone.”

But also working is the studio’s speculate to accumulate strategy of paying more than $15 billion to buy hit properties like Marvel, Pixar and “Star Wars” makers Lucasfilm as well as mining its own vaults by making live action remakes of classic Disney animated films.

ENTITY presents a look at what Disney has in store to outpace the competition in for 2017 – when the studio will surely send box office records tumbling again.
