ENTITY shares one woman's internship reflection of her time at ENTITY.

When I joined the Entity internship program I had no idea what to expect. As a startup magazine, there had been no precedents to share what their own experience had been like. Now two months later, I realize that I never would have even begun to imagine what my journey would be like. Beyond the amazing experience of being a part of the beginning stages of a digital magazine, here are a few things you wouldn’t expect to do as an Entity intern.

1 Learn To Fly

Entity magazine promotes women empowerment and in order to do that, it highlights women that do. As a part of the Entity team, we also got to be a part of trying things that scare, challenge and excite us. Jennifer Schwab Wangers, our remarkable publisher, is a woman of all trades. As a certified pilot, she wanted us to be able to experience the exhilaration she feels flying. You can imagine our enthusiasm when she was able to arrange for us a lesson with her flight instructor.

2 Intro To Boxing

Another new experience I was introduced to through my Entity internship was boxing. I had always been interested in trying this sport, but never got the opportunity to. It was extremely liberating channeling any anger or frustrations into a healthy exercise.

3 Be Inspired By Successes

In addition to Wangers’s wide range of success and Gabrielle Sobel’s, our Editor in chief, we got to meet several other important people who shared their experiences. I’ve always felt much more inspired after hearing people talk about how they got to where they are, it makes it all seem real and attainable. Most internships don’t allow you this kind of opportunity, but I was very fortunate to have that here.

4 Be Photographed

Part of being professional, is looking it and that means having a headshot to go along. Headshots are pretty pricey, the cheapest being around $100. As an Entity intern we were able to get our headshots taken for the site at no cost and the quality looks absolutely stunning.

5 Get a Byline

Clearly this wasn’t a typical coffee fetching internship, but I didn’t truly understand the depth of this until I saw the amount of work expected. Getting in to a career field usually means having to work your way up from the bottom, but here at Entity we were allowed a taste of what it’s really like to have a journalism career and getting my very own byline was a huge part of that.
