1 Lupita Nyong’o was born in Mexico.

She is not Mexican, but she was born in Mexico to Kenyan parents because her father was a teacher at a school in Mexico City.

“I was born during the third year he was there. And when I was 16, I returned to Mexico to learn Spanish,” she told CNN. “I lived in Taxco, Guerrero and attended the UNAM, the Education Center for Foreigners. [I] lived there for seven months and I loved it.”

Nyong’o was born on March 1, 1983. So yes, even though she looks like she is in her twenties, she is actually 34, which really makes me wonder what moisturizer she uses.

2 She has brains and beauty.

Nyong’o is known for her mad acting skills, but she did not get to where she is by luck. She’s a hard worker.

The 34-year-old earned her bachelor’s degree in film at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. And when she returned from Kenya, she worked as a production assistant on the movie “The Constant Gardner.”

Her education doesn’t stop with her bachelor’s degree, however. She took it to the next level by obtaining her master’s degree at the Yale school of drama.

So if you were wondering if Lupita Nyong’o is legit or not … she is.

3 She is not only an actress but a movie maker.

What is it like to be white in a black society? This is the question posed to the audience when watching the film “In My Genes.”

The documentary follows the story of albino families in the Kenyan community.

4 She does have a boyfriend, but no, it’s not Jared Leto.

Although Nyong’o was rumored to be romantically involved with Jared Leto, she claims that they are actually just good friends. On the Ellen DeGeneres show, she confronted the question with humor and grace by responding with, “Ah, but I thought Miley Cyrus broke us up. That was the last thing I heard.”

She is dating someone, though, and yes, he is as equally as handsome as Jared Leto. He is the fashion editor at GQ,  Mobolaji Dawodu, and he took to Instagram to share their love with the world.

Nyong’o had kept the secret for six months before the announcement. They met through mutual friends in the fashion world. However, there is no word on Instagram or on any other social media site if the pair is still a couple.

5 She has more than one box office hit movie.

After being a part of “12 Years a Slave,” Nyong’o went on to work in other box office hits, such as “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” She was not her actual self though. Through CGI, Nyong’o was able to play the character Maz Kanata. Maz Kanata is a pirate and smuggler who is over 1,000 years old.

She was floored to play this character and told EW, “To be able to have that experience and the continuation of Han Solo, Luke and Leia’s journey is really a blessing, to be able to play a small part in that.”

Aside from this, Lupita Nyong’o has also captured the eyes of Beyonce’s man. She is set to star in JAY-Z‘s new music video, alongside actors like Danny Glover.

Until then, we will just sit still and be mesmerized by her beautiful smile.
