Funny Memes are more than just funny. They are perfect depictions of our expressions when we are at a loss for words. Grumpy Cat, Success Kid and Doge. They have all gone viral and have won their way onto millions of Instagram accounts.

But who are the real people/animals behind the funny memes pictures?

ENTITY uncovers the true identities behind the internet’s funniest memes of all time.

According to Grumpy Cat’s website, Grumpy Cat aka Tardar Sauce was born on April 4, 2012.  She has become a global internet sensation because of her grumpy face.

She became an internet celebrity thanks to photographer Bryan Bundesen. Bryan Bundesen, the brother of Grumpy Cat’s owner, told USA Today that Grumpy Cat really took off when he proved that the cat’s image was not altered. He put up YouTube videos as evidence to verify that Grumpy Cat’s face was indeed naturally grumpy.

The real question is though: is Grumpy Cat feeling angry?

GrumpyCat’s website addresses the subject by stating, “She really isn’t grumpy! She is a super cute and cuddly kitty and loves to be held and rubbed!”

If you come across a photo of an adorable baby clenching his fist, then you probably have stumbled upon Success Kid.

The 11-month-old baby seen in the photo is Sammy Griner. Success Kid’s mother, Laney Griner shared with CBS News that the feedback featuring her son’s meme is anything but negative.

“Everything to do with ‘Success Kid’ is positive. I so rarely have heard anything negative directed toward us,” said Mama Griner.

The back story is more touching than your average meme, though.

The family first posted the photo onto the GoFundMe site which states that his father, Justin Griner, was in need of a kidney transplant. The page was able to raise a successful amount of $100,000 dollars.

Sammy Griner is now 10-years old and, until this day, hasn’t forgotten his internet fame.

You may be wondering why this gorgeous Shiba Inu has a wow-like expression.

Doge’s real name is Kabosu, and there is more to Doge than her very funny expression. Actually, her life wasn’t funny at all.

The Verge’s Kyle Chayka reported about her owner, Atsuko Sato, saving her life from an animal shelter.

“She was a pedigreed dog from a puppy mill, and when the puppy mill closed down, she was abandoned along with 19 other Shiba dogs. Some of them were adopted, but the rest of them were killed,” says Sato.

Sato shared why she named her four-legged friend Kabosu. “Her face is very round just like kabosu fruit. I thought the name was perfect, so I kept it,” she told The Verge.

Although Kabosu is from Japan, she has seemed globally leave a paw print on the internet.

Some of our high school pictures stay buried somewhere in our parents closet. For Kyle Craven, though, his high school picture is plastered all over the internet.

Turns out he actually wanted to look like that.

Craven was known to be the class clown in his high school so he literally stuck out his jaw, rubbed his face until it turned red and scrunched his eyes to look smaller. The principle was so angry she told him he had to come back and retake the picture he shared with the Washington Post.

These days, Kyle Craven is married and works as a manager at a construction site. He doesn’t mind seeing his high school face around the internet, though. “I think it’s odd when a lot of the other memes I meet are trying to keep it all hush-hush,” he told the All That Is Interesting website.
