ENTITY reports the best Pixar movies.

Woody, Mike Wazowski and Mr. Incredible are some of the most memorable characters from Pixar films. But they have some female counterparts that deserve a chance in the spotlight.

Although Pixar’s first lead female character wasn’t introduced until 2012 with “Brave,” we have seen our fair share of strong, opinionated women in Pixar films.

From the fiery-haired Merida to little Boo, here are just a few of our favorite female characters featured in Pixar films.

1 Merida in Brave (2012)

It’s only fitting to start of with Pixar’s first standalone female protagonist. Merida defies all the typical standards for a princess; she’s not afraid to get dirty, shoots bows and arrows and has no interest in marriage. Merida stands up for herself and fights for her own hand.

2 Joy and Sadness in Inside Out (2015)

This movie is set almost entirely inside Riley’s mind. But her emotions start to lose control when Sadness starts tampering with the memories. So Joy and Sadness embark on a journey to bring the real Riley back.

Joy is a light-hearted and optimistic character who must be strong for the other emotions living inside Riley. She shows her strength by always looking for the positives in every situation, no matter how  bad the situation seems.

3 Boo in Monsters Inc. (2001)

Monsters Inc. wouldn’t have a story without Boo, the adorable toddler who starts to derail the monster world. Boo may only feature in “Monsters Inc.” but some fans think that she is the witch in “Brave.”

4 Eve in Wall-E (2008)

ENTITY celebrate Eve as a charcter who demonstrates girl power in the Pixar film, "Wall-e."

While she starts off cold and an unfeeling, Eve soon learns the powers of emotions from Wall-E. After discovering him on a mission on Earth, Eve learns to love the happy trash collector who remained on the planet after the rest of humanity escaped to an enormous starship.

Eve’s strength is her open-mindedness and ability to change. While she initially seems hostile toward Wall-E, she learns to accept him and later, even love him.

5 Edna Mode and Helen Parr in The Incredibles (2004)

With great power comes great responsibility, and it’s Edna Mode’s responsibility to make sure that the supers are dressed to perfection. And she does just that. Helen Parr may appear to be a typical housewife, but underneath that image, she’s still Elastigirl, the crazy, sexy, cool superhero who will do anything to protect her children.

6 Jessie in Toy Story 2 and 3 (1999 and 2010)

Jessie broke up the boys club that Woody and Buzz formed in the original “Toy Story” film. We are introduced to her in the second installment of the franchise, but she gets her own tragic backstory in the third, making us fall in love with her even more.

7 Dory in Finding Nemo and Finding Dory (2003 and 2016)

Dory might be a bit forgetful, but she never loses her joy, laughter and positivity. We did our thirteen years of waiting before we finally got to see Dory on screen again after the release of “Finding Nemo” in 2003.

These leading ladies don’t get enough credit, but often steal the show fro their male counterparts. Get your dose of girl power by watching their movies again and again and again.
