Entity reports that Good Girls Revolut has been canceled by Amazon.

Ladies, rise up. “Good Girls Revolt” has been cancelled by Amazon. In a surprising move, the streaming service opted to drop the TV series after a one season run.

Amazon teamed up with Sony Pictures Television to create and produce historical period drama “Good Girls Revolt.” After its October 2016 release the show earned the title of one the best reviewed and most watched shows of 2016.

Set in 1969, “Good Girls Revolt” chronicles female employees at a newspaper. The women struggle in the boys’ club hierarchy where they do all of the work and receive none of the credit. The show is based on a true story of women coming together in a movement to fight sexism.

A slew of impressive women star in the series. “Pitch Perfect” actress Anna Camp is joined by breakout stars Genevieve Angelson and Erin Darke. Joy Bryant and Grace Gummer also play important female roles based on real people – Eleanor Holmes and Nora Ephron, respectively – from the movement.

Off-screen, when they aren’t reading their feminist scripts, these actresses speak up for women and their rights. Camp told the “The Today Show” that she hopes the show “inspires women to unite.” Angelson has spoke highly of the women that inspired the show, referring to these ladies as “some of the most brilliant, dynamic, funny and smart women who’ve ever lived …”

Though the all-star female cast and a positive women empowerment message resonated with viewers, “Good Girls Revolt” clearly didn’t win the hearts of Amazon execs.

“Sources say Amazon Studios head Roy Price was not a fan of the series and didn’t deem it to be an awards season player in opting to pass on ordering a second season after hearing Sony’s Season Two pitch this week,” says The Hollywood Reporter.

Show creator Dana Calvo told BuzzFeed that she was “stunned by Amazon’s decision,” seen in the tweet below.

Luckily for fans, there may be some hope of the show continuing elsewhere. Sony Pictures is currently trying to take back the show rights and fight for a new platform, according to Variety. If the show is able to secure a new partner, a second season may be in the works. At this time, however, no offers have been made.

Fans of feminist television have already grieved the end of other beloved series. Shows featuring unapologetic leading ladies like “Parks And Recreation” and “Daria” that young women turned to when they were feeling misrepresented are now off the air.  Most recently, HBO’s hit “Girls” – Lena Dunham’s creation starring four headstrong females – announced its series finale after six seasons.

Yet feminist shows still remain. After all, “Orange Is The New Black” stars an impressive female cast who explore the struggles women face inside the prison and in their own lives. Plus, “The Mindy Project” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” both offer us realistic, self-sufficient heroines.

These past and present women-centric shows give hope to “Good Girls Revolt.” Although Amazon’s announcement makes the future seem grim for the feminists in the newsroom, the newcomer may achieve a similar successful fate if Sony’s efforts come through.
