The hairs on the back of your neck stand up, you get a sinking feeling in your stomach, your heart begins to race, you simply “know” that something feels wrong. These are signs of your intuition kicking in. What is Intuition? We sometimes refer to it as a gut feeling, a hunch, or a sixth sense. While we don’t always know how to define it, we’ve all had at least one intuitive feeling in our lives.

It is not something we can control; it is something we feel. It’s a subconscious process, in which our bodies react before our minds do. To some, it may seem like a far-fetched idea that we have some sort of magical powers, but scientists have long studied the phenomenon of intuition.

Humans have two different “operating systems” in our brains. System One, on the right side, is our more instinctual, subconscious side. System Two, on the left, uses more logical, analytical thinking. Our intuitive sense occurs in the subconscious System One, which explains why it is a sense that is beyond our control.

Entity discusses intuition

Cambridge researcher Barnaby Dunn tested intuition through an experiment using a rigged card game. Dunn found that participants began choosing from the winning decks of cards before they consciously became aware that there were winning decks and losing decks. He observed that when participants reached for the losing decks, their heart rates dropped and sweat glands opened. This study demonstrated that participants’ bodies detected danger before their minds did, thereby supporting the idea of intuition.

Intuition also involves a phenomenon called blindsight. Blindsight is the ability to respond to certain stimuli without actually seeing them. Researchers tested the concept of blindsight on a patient who went blind after suffering several strokes. In the experiment, the patient was asked to walk down a hallway full of obstacles. He was able to navigate around all the obstacles with little difficulty. The study reinforces the idea that intuition plays a significant role in our perceptual awareness.

How To Strengthen Your Intuition

Recognize When Your Intuition Is Trying To Talk To You

Each person receives signals in different ways. For some, it may be a visual image that appears in a quick flash. For others, it’s a thought that they must explore. Some get goosebumps, while others experience different physical reactions. Others feel a wave of emotions, such as uneasiness or nervousness when their intuition is speaking to them. Whatever it may be, it is important to understand the way in which our bodies show that our intuition is trying to communicate with us.

Listen To Your Gut Feeling

Dr. Judith Orloff MD explains that there is a physiological connection between your mind and your gut: “there are neurotransmitters in your gut, so if you get a gut feeling, it’s not good to ignore that.”

Our body physically sends us messages, whether it be butterflies in our stomach or an uncomfortable feeling. It is important to listen to these messages and respond to them with action. Have you ever been around someone that just feels “off?” They might not have said or done anything specific, but you simply feel that something is not right. This is your gut warning you. Follow it!

Meditate

ENTITY intuitive

Meditation gives us time to quiet our minds and control our breath. It is a break from our daily lives. When we meditate we can finally put all of our thoughts to rest. When you separate yourself from people and spend time alone, you are able to truly feel your emotions. Your subconscious opens up, which makes decision making simpler and clearer. When we get in touch with our subconscious, we are also getting in touch with our intuitive side.

Pay Attention To Your Surroundings

Do you feel drained when you’re at work? At school? Your environment plays a big role in the way you feel. Is there a coworker that makes you feel depleted? It is most likely their own negative energy, which is expelling into the air, that you are then absorbing. Our intuition identifies these types of people, which we sometimes call “energy vampires.”

Trust Yourself

Tune into that intuition and understand its value in your life. We all have it. It is just a matter of whether or not we trust it. First, you must trust yourself in order to hear and strengthen your intuitive senses. More often than not, they will lead you in the right direction.
