Many a think piece has been written on Ivanka Trump’s particular brand of fake feminism.
But it was finally called out in a big way on “Saturday Night Live,” with host Scarlett Johansson playing the president’s infamous daughter.
The sketch showed Ivanka as the face of a fake perfume called “Complicit,” with the tagline, “the fragrance for the woman who could stop all this, but won’t.”
Scarlett channels Ivanka in a shimmery, gold dress and pin-straight blonde tresses as she strolls through a swanky black-tie event, like in luxurious perfume commercials such as Charlize Theron’s for Dior.
One of the funniest moments in the ad features a group of women joking that Ivanka probably pictures herself as Rose (Kate Winslet’s character) when she watches “Titanic.” The women laugh as Aidy Bryant can then be seen mouthing, “Sorry, girl. You’re Billy Zane,” referencing the movie’s villain.
“She doesn’t crave the spotlight, but we see her. Oh, how we see her,” the voice-over says, as Ivanka glances in the mirror while putting on lipstick only to see a reflection of Donald Trump (played by Alec Baldwin) doing the same.
Calling out her fake feminism, the voice-over says, “A feminist, an advocate, a champion for women… but, like, how?” as “SNL” cast members show expressions of confusion, seemingly trying to ponder the ongoing question themselves.
“She’s a woman who knows what she wants, and knows what she’s doing,” the ad says, while repeating the fragrance name – Complicit.
The video also suggests that Ivanka “probably should have bounced after that whole ‘Access Hollywood’ thing,” referencing the leaked video in which Trump bragged about kissing, groping and trying to have sex with women. And you know, “grabbing them by the p-ssy.”
But Scarlett’s careless Ivanka can be seen mouthing, “Oh well” – which is pretty much how Ivanka handled the situation in real life. And the video makes sure to call out Ivanka’s husband Jared Kushner as well, ending with, “Complicit… Also available in cologne for Jared.”
