ENTITY shares more on Jason Voorhees.

If a tall figure with a hockey mask carrying a machete is at your door, it’s probably Jason Voorhees.

Jason Voorhees, the main character from “Friday The 13th,” is a mass murderer who continuously comes back to avenge the death of his mother. But aside from his murderous tendencies, not much else is known about Jason Voorhees.

What does he look like? Why the hockey mask?

Well, we’re here to unmask five facts you didn’t know about “Friday The 13th’s” Jason Voorhees.

1 There’s a reason Jason wears a mask.

Jason Voorhees’ story starts with his deformed face. Voorhees has these severe deformities due to the fact that he was born with hydrocephalus and an abnormally large head, which, as you can imagine, was the bane of his existence growing up. And eventually, he was bullied, thrown in the lake and drowned.

Thankfully, though, we can remember that Voorhees is a fictional character. The man that created his iconic look was makeup artist Tom Savini.

Tom Savini, who worked on other horror films such as “Dawn Of The Dead,” told Friday The 13th.com that even though makeup has come a long way, he is still proud of his work for “Friday The 13th.”

“I was very proud of that movie as it was not a bunch of grey zombies walking around but a true test of what make-up effects are supposed to be,” he said. “I think it still stands up, as those effects happened right in front of you as if you were there and not some CGI stuff.”

2 What is the story behind the hockey mask?

Jason’s iconic look came from director Steve Miner’s obsession with hockey.

“I think Steve had done a whole bunch of hockey documentaries, when he was learning the editing craft, and I think that just out of that, he just said, ‘Let’s just try this,’ and that was the choice for ‘Friday 3’, and it just stuck,” creator Sean Cunningham told The Lip TV.

Cunningham says that the infamous Jason hockey mask has been changed over time, too.

“And every movie since then, there’s always, like, a readjusting of the mask, how to make it just right. But it has stuck, and the character himself has just morphed so dramatically over time that he has sort of, I don’t know … the movies wind up being about Jason, and not the people Jason is threatening,” Cunningham added.

3 Mama Voorhees was the real killer in the beginning.

Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees, was the original killer who murdered the camp counselors and kept Camp Crystal Lake from opening.

Camp Crystal Lake is Jason Voorhees’ death took place. Since the camp counselors were having sex, they weren’t able to save him when he was drowning. Thus, Pamela blamed the counselors for her son’s death and ultimately killed them.

And when Pamela died, Jason made an altar for his mother and then continued killing people in her honor.

As for the actress who played Pamela, Betsy Palmer, she only took the role to buy a new car.

“I thought, ‘Look this is just a way I can pay for the car’ so I said send me the script so they did. I read it and I said what a piece of junk,” Palmer said in an interview. “I said nobody is ever going to see this thing, it’ll come it’ll go.”

She was wrong, though. “Friday The 13th” went on to gross almost $40 million dollars at the box office.

4 Jason Voorhees has killed more people than any slasher murderer in history.

According to Gary Phillips of HeyGuys.com, Jason has killed over 146 people. Freddy Krueger, who later becomes his opponent in “Freddy vs. Jason,” murdered 94.

Not sure if that’s exactly something to be proud, though, Jason.

5 Jason’s name was originally Josh.

In an interview with Horror Fuel writer Victor Miller, he said Jason was originally going to be named after his son.

“It is, his first name was Joshua. My son’s name was also Joshua and I didn’t want him to have to carry that,” Miller said. “Jason has always been a bit of a creepy name to me, so I changed his name to Jason.”

And since Jason never seems to die, I guess we can look forward to seeing him for the next Friday the 13th.
