Kate McKinnon took home an Emmy this year for her performances on “Saturday Night Live.” And she continued to prove how worthy that win was as she reprised her old Hollywood character Debette Goldry for a sketch on gender equality.

“The first woman to ever dive into a swimming pool onscreen” had made her debut on the series in a sketch led by guest host Margot Robbie in October. She joined Saturday’s host Emma Stone, Leslie Jones, and Jennifer Aniston for Paley Center event “Big Parts, Small Actresses: The State of Gender Equality in Film,” moderated by “SNL” star Sasheer Zamata as Director of Programming Cecelia Prince.

Leslie, Emma, and Jennifer discussed real struggles as women in the industry today, as Debette shocked the audience with more outrageous and offensive incidents from her “days in show business” as the panel went on.

Cecilia began by asking what is holding women back in the industry, to which Jennifer lamented the need to “act a certain way so you don’t get labeled as difficult.” Debette then left panelists flummoxed with her unorthodox answer regarding a deadly skincare regimen. “Samuel Goldwyn had a rule that all of his starlets had to eat arsenic tablets to make their skin glow. And then they discovered it made us psychotic,” she said.

Though not to worry, as Debette shared that studios made sure to calm the actresses down afterwards… with a monkey carrying a tray of opium. Cecilia tried to redirect the discussion for her shocked panelists, asking about the pay gap. Leslie offered, “Even in standup people don’t want to talk about it but then you find out how much more men are getting paid, and it’s crazy.”

But Debette didn’t seem bothered by the men making more money, seeing as the women were just “lying on a train track waiting to get run over.” And when Leslie marveled that women in old Hollywood were “literally treated like an object,” Kate quipped, “Actresses were part of the props budget.”

Later, after Emma muses that actors are “in a unique position to raise awareness to worthy causes,” Debette concurred, sharing that the studio had once sent her to the White House. Of course, it was to “sing Happy Birthday to FDR,” who then asked her to “tickle his pickle.” After jaws dropped, she reassured everyone by telling them that he hid a pickle in his wheelchair as a joke, before adding, “Then I blew him.”

Another big laugh came when Jennifer talked about stepping into the director’s role, which seemingly blew Debette’s mind. “How could that possibly work?” she wondered.

“Oh I see, your husband comes to set dressed up like a plant, whispers the ideas,” she gushed. When Jennifer insisted that she was the one making decisions, Debette brushed her off, adding that the “Friends” alum had ingested a bit too much arsenic.
