Entity tells you how you can lock down your business casual style.

Tomorrow is the first day of your new job. You’re excited … but you don’t know what to wear. As a woman in the workplace, you have to know how to stylishly and professionally present yourself. You want to be dressed to the nines, but you can’t wear anything too feminine (or you won’t be taken seriously) and you can’t wear anything too serious or casual (because then you’ll look matronly).

Relax – don’t overthink it! Here are ENTITY’s tips for any #WomenThatDo starting a new job. Follow these tips, act with confidence and show ’em what you’re made of – you’re going to kill it!

1 You can never go wrong with a blazer.

Blazers are a great layering piece over a sleeveless or light chiffon blouse. They are professional but stylish and go well with almost any outfit. Paired with well-fitted black trousers or pencil skirt and a colorful blouse, blazers are the perfect addition to any working woman’s closet.

2 Get a skirt that works for your body.

Pencil skirts, known for their clean industry look, are a workplace staple. But don’t purchase the first skirt you see at the mall. If you want to be confident on your first day on the job, pick a skirt of an appropriate length – whether it’s pencil or A-line. While a pencil may work for your co-worker, you may find you look more professional in a different style.

3 Don’t be afraid to accessorize.

Now, don’t start dripping yourself in jewels, but try to embellish your outfit with a statement necklace, some studs or a matching scarf. Accessories are like the icing on the cake – they add glamour to any outfit without detracting from the professionalism of the look.

4 Dresses are great for any day.

Some days it’s just easier to throw on a loose dress and walk out the door. One piece frocks are a simple and elegant way to look bright and motivated in the office. And if your dress is sleeveless and you find yourself chilly, top it off with a well-fitting blazer. In the wintertime, don’t be afraid to pull that printed dress from the closet – simply  layer with tights, boots and a sweater to finish off your summer-turned-winter style.

5 Shoes are your best friend.

Heels are the quintessential aspect of a woman’s professional outfit – but you should pick a comfy pair. Of course, get those cute black pumps, but alternate your styles every day. Wear wedges one day and give your feet some rest by wearing simple flats or boat shoes the next. If you’re a working woman on her feet most of the day, give your feet some love with a pair of comfy – and cute – shoes.

6 Stick with neutral colors.

Sometimes, it’s best to stick to more pastels, nudes or more demure shades in the workplace. While you want to stand out to your boss, you don’t want to be ostentatious on your first day. If you are a woman who loves neon or bright colors, try finding accessories or layering brightly-colored pieces, but make sure they go along with the simpler colors of your main outfit.

7 Your handbag is your life.

If you’re going to carry your bag with you throughout the day, you might as well use it to make a statement! You can never go wrong with a chic tote bag that’s large enough to fit all your essentials for the day.

Don’t feel pressured to spend a lot of money on your professional wardrobe. While you may need to splurge at times for a quality power suit, there are so many options for a wardrobe on a budget. Department stores like Macy’s, Sear’s or JC Penney have brands like Calvin Klein at a more inexpensive rate. Hit stores like LOFT or H&M for blazers and blouses – you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars to make a statement with your look.

But most importantly, feel good in what you are wearing. When your outfit rocks, you will feel more confident and ready to nail your first day on the job!
