We'll never be Royal.

But 2017 is her year.
She is back and better than ever. Lorde’s new album, “Melodrama,” was released on June 16, 2017.
And here at ENTITY, we like to acknowledge the Women That Do, and Lorde is just that. But before we get started on the things you should know about her, let’s look at how Lorde’s career got started.
Lorde was just 12 years old when she was discovered by a huge record company.
In an interview with Ryan Seacrest, she talked about her story. Lorde said, “I sang at my school talent show and my record company saw [a video] and they approached me.”
Lorde signed with Universal Records to begin the journey of a lifetime.
Lorde’s first album was “The Love Club EP” (2012), which reached number two on the national record charts in both New Zealand and Australia.
But according to The New York Times, it wasn’t until her her second album, “Pure Heroine” (2013), that Lorde became a recognized artist. The album sold more than one million copies in five months, making Lorde the first female artist with a million-selling debut album since Adele.
She also became the youngest and first New Zealand solo artist to ever hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
And now Lorde is back and better than ever. After taking a four-year hiatus, Lorde released her new album “Melodrama” (2017), which has already landed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 Chart.
Aside from all her great albums, Lorde is also a Grammy Award winning artist. In 2014, she won Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her hit single, “Royals.”
She has definitely established herself as an artist to be reckoned with.
Lorde is 20 years old. Yes you read that right. She’s just 20.
Many people have a hard time accepting Lorde’s age. It could be because one, she looks a lot older than she really is and two, she’s really mature for a 20-year-old.
Even “South Park” made a spoof about how old Lorde was. Their spoof only raised more questions and doubt about her age than even before.
But like the mature person Lorde is, she found the episode quite funny. She responded by tweeting, “I have officially been the subject of two ‘South Park’ episodes and that is weird and cool … I don’t actually watch ‘South Park’ but from what I can tell Sia was involved and someone’s mum said something really nice about me … score!”
With the wisdom and grace she carries around, you’d never think she was only in her 20s. But many do say she has an old soul living in a young body.
She was actually born Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O’Connor. But why the name change?
“I basically chose Lorde because I wanted a name that was really strong and had this grandeur to it. I didn’t feel that my birth name was anything special [and] I always liked the idea of having, like, a one-named alias,” she told ABC News Radio.
She said she got inspiration from the word “Lord” but decided to add an ‘e’ to make it feminine.
Clearly the name change was a good move for her career.
It’s no secret that Lorde was part of T-Swift’s cool group, they even become #friendshipgoals. But is Lorde still BFF’s with Taylor Swift?
Lorde recently told The Guardian something that makes it seem like they’re not as close as they used to be. She said being friends with Taylor Swift is like having an autoimmune disease.
“It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies. There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do,” she explained. “There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease.”
Ouch.
On “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon,” Lorde finally admitted to having a secret Instagram.
Her deleted Instagram account, OnionRingsWorldwide, was dedicated to rating onion rings. Now that is smart. Who wouldn’t want to be following that account?
“I sort of naively didn’t realize it would be a thing that I was going to different places and trying the onion rings at different places,” she told Fallon. “I feel like it reads like the kind of thing pop stars would do to be relatable. It was a funny thing to do with my friends on the tour, and I was like this is a good past time.”
Honestly? We just love her even more for this.
