Entity reports on Megyn Kelly's move from FOX to NBC.

Megyn Kelly is leaving Fox News to become the new face of the NBC network.

Kelly will leave her primetime role at Fox for a multi-year deal that includes a daytime program, a Sunday evening news magazine show and a gig as an anchor for NBC’s major political and breaking-news events.

“[Kelly] is an exceptional journalist and news anchor who has had an extraordinary career,” Andrew Lack, NBCUniversal News Group chairman, said in the Jan. 3 announcement. “She’s demonstrated tremendous skill and poise and we’re lucky to have her.”

The journalist made big headlines in 2016 for challenging Donald Trump’s treatment of women and for speaking out against sexual harassment from Fox News chief Roger Ailes.

Fox offered her an annual salary upwards of $20 million to stay with the network. Although NBC and other networks have previously said they couldn’t match that amount, Forbes predicts that NBC is likely making her the highest-paid female news anchor on television.

But regardless the size of the salary offered, here are five reasons Kelly will be well worth NBC’s resources.

1 Broader Audience

Kelly is an appealing host for younger and female audiences. During her time on Fox, she became known as the woman who actively countered Fox’s stereotypical conservative stances, especially during the Republican primaries. When Kelly engaged with Trump, it was her unapologetic attitude and refusal to  back down amidst Trump’s Twitter attacks that audiences praised.

2 Better Ratings

Kelly is currently one of the most watched personalities on cable news. Since Fox News started 15 years ago, the outspoken journalist has risen to be the second-most watched host (behind Bill O’Reilly) with an average of 2.7 million viewers. And in 2016, Megyn Kelly’s role as a Trump skeptic helped lift Fox News ratings. The 2016 presidential election lifted the network to the most-watched ad-supported primetime cable channel and also gave Fox its most-watched month since the previous election in 2012.

With the move to NBC, not only does Kelly leave a huge gap for the Fox network, but she will be taking her big audience and talent with her.

3 Talented News Anchor

As Andrew Lack said in his announcement, Kelly is an “exceptional journalist” with “tremendous skill.” Through the years she’s worked as a journalist, Kelly has established herself as a news anchor who isn’t afraid to challenge people with difficult questions or to cover painful topics. In her Fox show “Kelly File,” she’s covered various major news events which required special expertise and sensitivity, including the the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting and the Duke University lacrosse rape case.

4 Different Form of News

Kelly has often described herself as more of a news analyst than an opinion host and her new gigs at NBC will showcase this. Her daytime program is planned to be a mix of news, interviews and panel-like discussions that cover a range of topics. And as a woman who isn’t afraid to reject the label “feminist” or support same-sex marriage with Fox’s conservative viewership, NBC can expect Kelly and her star quality to shake up the network.

As a woman in journalism, Kelly is aware of the kind of double standards present in her field and she’s not afraid to counter them. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Kelly slammed the people who criticized her blue spaghetti strap dress during the Republican National Convention.

While some people said she looked like she was “trolling for a drink in the hotel bar,” Kelly argued that she can be “smart and challenging while [wearing] spaghetti straps and everyone is just going to have to get their heads around that.”
