If you think your steaming Pumpkin Spice Latte is hot, NASA’s new ‘pumpkin’ stars will put your Starbucks order to shame.

This month NASA discovered new ‘pumpkin’ stars, which are squashed space material that eerily resemble a glowing jack-o’-lantern. Francis Reddy with NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center explains the newest scientific phenomenon.

“Astronomers using observations from NASA’s Kepler and Swift missions have discovered a batch of rapidly spinning stars that produce X-rays at more than 100 times the peak levels ever seen from the sun,” Reddy said via the NASA website. “The stars, which spin so fast they’ve been squashed into pumpkin-like shapes, are thought to be the result of close binary systems where two sun-like stars merge.”

After these hot balls of gas, you will never look at your Pumpkin Spice Latte the same way. Jokes aside, NASA’s discovery will definitely put you in the Halloween mood. While you won’t be able to carve or eat these ‘pumpkins,’ check out the video clip above for a glimpse at these out of this world stars.
