For this latest edition of the Italian tire company’s annual artsy project, untouched photos of Hollywood stars was the theme.
The calendar, titled “Emotional,” showcases renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh capturing the natural beauty of famous faces.
In this 44th edition of the exclusive calendar, Chastain, 39, is featured in simple black and white lingerie, barefaced and vulnerable.
Similar to the no makeup movement spearheaded by Alicia Keys this year, the idea behind these photos was to create a calendar centered on natural beauty and sensitivity while liberating women from the pressures of constant perfection.

“In a time when women are represented in the media and everywhere else as ambassadors of perfection and youth, I thought it was important to remind everyone that there is a different beauty,” Lindbergh said in a press release. “[A beauty] more real and truthful and not manipulated by commercial or any other interests, a beauty which speaks about individuality, courage to be yourself and your own private sensibility.”
Nicole Kidman, 49, said that Lindbergh “really wanted [her] to be very natural” during the shoot.
Julianne Moore, 55, recalled that Lindbergh said of her no make up and wet hair look, “You’re perfect.”

The full list of women appearing in the 2017 Pirelli calendar is: Jessica Chastain, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Penelope Cruz, Rooney Mara, Helen Mirren, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlotte Rampling, Lea Seydoux, Uma Thurman, Alicia Vikander, Kate Winslet, Robin Wright, Zhang Ziyi and Anastasia Ignatova.
The stripped down photos of these women were taken in five different places: Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, London and France. Lindbergh has shared some of the images on his Instagram account.
“As an artist, I feel I’m responsible for freeing women from the idea of eternal youth and perfection,” Lindbergh said. “The idea of perfect beauty promoted by society is something that simply can’t be attained.”
