Among the who’s who around the world, whether they be actors, singers, fashion models, or prominent businessmen and women; when the spotlight shines on them, the hairstyles they wear are of great importance.

“A bad hairstyle won’t only make you look bad; it’ll have a negative impact on your entire day,” says Moeen Zuberi in her article, “10 Reasons Why Your Hair Is the Most Important Part of Your Look” for The Express Tribune.

Her statement still rings just as true today as it did then. Many will agree that hairstyles matter, and I will share with you some hairstyle quotes from various celebrities and writers that prove it. After reading, you will think twice about leaving home without checking your own coif.

A ‘Do That Feels Like You

“I wake up every day in a different headspace, so on any given day, my hairstyle will change.”    – Dawn Richard

For many women, there is a sense of luxury when it comes to waking up and allowing our natural tresses to flow, fall, or spike as they may.  We are connected to our hair. In an article written for Best Health Mag, Jela Tejada reports, “A 2015 survey by Avon shows that 67 percent of American women feel their most confident on good hair days.” The hairstyles we choose on any given day represent that day’s mood, which is perfectly okay!

Our self-expression goes far beyond a pursed lip, crinkled nose, or raised brow. Hairstyles matter, and they matter a lot, if you ask Imani Kimwah. According to an article she wrote in 2017, “A Drastic Haircut Led to Self-Discovery,” Kimwah states, “I have always styled my hair based off my emotions and each hairstyle subconsciously represented an internal conflict.”

Emotions can truly make you do some drastic things!

Who knew that a change in your look might lead to a sort of self-actualization? A daring change can be just what the doctor ordered.

The Go-To Hairstyle

“I was the first person to have a punk rock hairstyle.” – Vivienne Westwood

Everyone has had a time when they have tried that trending hairstyle or avoided it like the plague. Some of us were the very first to wear a hairstyle and it became a trend. And maybe a few more of us read some great hairstyle quotes and became inspired to rock a whole new look!

When heading out to that big social event, the go-to hairstyle is sometimes the best choice. It’s what your hair remembers.

Who you are and how you wear your hair do matter because everyone is looking from every angle.

Miriam Herst-Stein gives ten ways to wear box braids in an article she wrote for “All Things Hair” which represents a very common ethnic hairstyle. “These beautiful braids are a low-maintenance way to make a bold hair statement,” says Stein.

I have to agree that this is a definite go-to hairstyle, as I have seen box braids on many young girls at my daughter’s middle school and even on some of their mothers.

A Style for Your Smile

“Curly hair is not just a hairstyle: it’s kind of a lifestyle. There is something really free and careless about it and loose and kind of naughty. I love it.” – Inbar Lavi

Whether you have a statement to make or an expression to share, an individual’s hairstyle can communicate so many things. I saw a meme on Aloxxi International’s Facebook page that says, “Never underestimate the power of a hair stylist,” with side-by-side pictures of Brad Pitt when he was younger and Brad Pitt as he looks today.

Happy hair is the best hair, wouldn’t you say? On any day, my hair likes to quote my favorite Lauryn Hill song by saying, “I gotta find peace of mind.”

The “Cringey” Look

“Sometimes I look back at myself and remember things I used to say, or my hairstyle, and I cringe.” – Madonna Ciccone

We’ve all had times when we woke up on the wrong side of the bed, as the saying goes, and we can not get our hair to cooperate, especially in a crunch.

We’ve had the down and wild look or the pinned-up bird’s nest look, not knowing what kind of a fashion disaster we were walking ourselves into.

In those times, we try to find another feature to highlight and draw attention to, like our cheekbones, as pointed out by Madilyn Smith, “The truth of the matter is, there are certain features of the body that we are inherently drawn to. High cheekbones are one of them,” she declares.

Yes, other things matter, but your hairstyle still matters most when stepping out on the runway we call life.

Just Knowing

“When I owned a hair salon back in Houston, I did a lot of makeovers. Women would come in for a new hairstyle and go out with a whole new look. I know what looks good on a woman.” – Tina Knowles

There are spiritual gurus, and there are hairstyle gurus. Those who just know the perfect look that goes with any face to make the perfect contour are very hard to come by. I can say that I have come across a couple in my lifetime.

When hairstyles matter more than the price of tea in China, it pays to only seek out the best stylist you can find.

From little babies to those older in age, hairstyles have been a focal point of their aesthetics. The bald or balding get just as much attention as those with hair that surpasses the physical frame. Having a greater awareness of what impact a hairstyle can have on your overall well-being can change your life for good!

It really matters. You decide how much.
