Twenty-three school shootings in less than six months is the new norm in the United States. There’s still no action taken by the government regarding gun reform.

Multiple reasons arise for blame, it’s always excuses. Yet we never blame the product that emits the bullet that kills people – guns.

Of course, the person responsible for the shooting is also to blame, but there should be stricter gun laws and accountability.

Here’s a list of 5 excuses other than guns that kill people.

  1. Pornography

Recently, a Texas lawmaker stated that pornography was the “root cause” of shootings. “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop” she stated. Watching two people get it on, only increases the imagination in the bedroom. There’s no relationship between watching porn and shootings.

Porn addicts get high from watching porn, not from shootings.

Surprisingly, she’s not the first to make the claim that porn contributes to shootings. In 2007, Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican Presidential Candidate, also made the same claim after the infamous Columbine shooting.

I hate to break it to you, but porn doesn’t shoot the bullets that kill people.

  1. Violent movies and video games.

It’s safe to say that everyone’s seen a violent movie. At one point in our lives, everyone’s exposed to violent video games. Yet, not everyone’s orchestrated a shooting. It doesn’t make sense to blame violent media when shootings in various parts of the world are significantly lower than the U.S., but according to President Donald Trump it’s the “violent movies.” A claim that is absurd and not backed by scientific data.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what we think when our legislators don’t think it’s true.

  1. Doors

Wait, what? Yes, doors are to blame. Apparently,  there’s too many entrances for people with guns to get in. It makes it easier for a gun to enter a facility such as a school and a mall because of the multiple doors. In an alternate universe where guns aren’t real, perhaps this reason would be enough.

But here in the Land of the Free, guns easily fall into the wrong hands. And, we have too many doors to control.

Don’t blame doors, when guns are weapons.

  1. Unhealthy diets

Recently, Ted Nugent, a board member of the NRA and singer-songwriter, in an interview stated that unhealthy diets are what causes shootings. He goes on to say that it’s “a diet of sugars and chemicals and fake garbage that doesn’t allow them to think properly.”

There’s no humor with this excuse. If that’s the case, then fast food is a producer of mass shooters.

  1. Abortions

Too many abortions and broken homes are to blame, according to Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. He stated that there are 50 million abortions and so many broken families that result in shooters. Lt. Gov. Patrick states that the devaluation of life is what leads to many of these children to participate in shootings.

I’m not sure what’s worse. Adults who play the blame game, issue condolences and ask for moments of silence when they can make REAL CHANGE.
