Finals week is the dreaded homestretch of all-nighters, of finally cracking open a previously unexplored textbook and of binging on the best snacks for studying.

Whether you’re into grabbing a bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos or would rather opt for brain food to help you focus, we’ve got the best deals on your go-to snack. Here are our favorite late night snacks to help get you through paper deadlines and 8 a.m. finals.

1 Popcorn

If you’re trying to stave off the omnipresent threat of the freshman 15, then popcorn just might be one of your best study snacks. Popcorn immediately brings up images of standing in front of a butter machine at the movie theater, wondering just how far you can really push the limits on butter to popcorn ratio. As much as that sounds like a recipe for disaster, popcorn is actually a healthy snack! Take out the butter and flavors and, according to the USDA, even eating five cups of plain popcorn will only up your calorie intake by 100 to 150.

If you’re one of those people who need to feel the constant crunch as you’re pouring over lecture videos, popcorn is one of the snacks for studying that you can munch on all night, guilt-free. And of course, if you’ve decided that you are a strong, beautiful woman no matter what (because you are!), throw some butter on that baby and indulge in a slightly less guilt-free but delicious study snack.

2 Chocolate

While you obviously want to keep yourself powered with superfoods that will keep your brain performing at maximum capacity, sometimes your snacks for studying have to fuel mental health as well.

And when it hits the 3 a.m. mark and you start morbidly contemplating where you’ve been in life and how you got to this point, all of us need a little pick-me-up. We’ve also all heard the news about how dark chocolate can improve memory, so this isn’t a complete cheat.

“Gamma waves address complex functions like information processing, improving memory, and decreasing stress,” Healthline reports. “A chocolate bar with 70 percent cacao, that after 30 minutes, [gave consumers] a massive, massive, large increase of gamma frequency in a major area of the brain — that is the back area of the brain and the right side of the brain.”

When you realize you’ve been staring at the same spot of the library ceiling for the past forty-five minutes, let that little Hershey’s square of exquisite, delicious chocolate melt on your tongue and fill your mouth with at least a few moments of bliss. It’s finals week, and you deserve every little victory to help you through the war.

3 Almonds

ENTITY Academy's best snacks for studying

Let’s be honest, everybody hates that slight first-world-problem inconvenience of having to wipe your hands off every time you transition from snack to computer, snack to computer. If you continue your dissertation on why Taylor Swift is the pop queen of our generation without properly wiping, you end up spending the next few days trying to rub grease off of your keyboard. That’s why almonds are our favorite go-to nut.

What almonds lack in carbs, they even make up for with a high protein and fibers. For just one cup, you get a payout of 30g of protein and 18g of fiber, which means that a little bit will go a long way. You’ll stay full longer and barely be knocking up your calorie count.

Not to mention, feel free to make that snack to computer transition as often as you desire with no consequences on your health or that of your keyboard! It’s a win-win for all.

4 Grapefruit

No study list would be complete without fruit. Grapefruit may be infamously known for being a little too sour for the general tastebuds, but it’s the perfect tang to keep you awake and going through the treacherous week. It’s also low in sugar and high in Vitamin A and C.

A lack of sleep and often forgetting to stay as hydrated as you should can rage absolute terror on your skin. We’ve all averted our eyes from the bathroom mirror and told ourselves, “You just need to get through this week.” Well, grapefruit is a fantastic deterrent to the foe we call acne and wrinkles. Medical News Today reports that 91 percent of grapefruit is just water, making it one of the fruits with the highest water content out there. Drinking water is a lot harder than we’d like to admit and having a tasty snack of grapefruit with a tad bit of sugar sprinkled on top for flavor can do a lot to combat dehydration.

On top of this all, grapefruit contains antioxidants that can help keep away wrinkles and improve the overall health of your skin. You may not have the time during finals week to be indulging in 30-minute face masks or spa days, but munching down on some grapefruit will keep you glowing like you deserve.

5 Avocados

ENTITY Academy's best snacks for studying

Avocados have earned a bit of a bad rep as a hipster food with the rise of foods like “avo toast.” But there’s a reason it’s wildly popular! It’s a superfood with nearly 20 vitamins and minerals, according to WebMD. It has high levels of potassium and Vitamin B and C.

They also report that “avocados are low in sugar. And they contain fiber, which helps you feel full longer.” When we’re slaving away over our textbooks at 3 a.m., we get hungry, and fast. We’re aiming for foods with low sugar because there’s nothing worse than fighting those drooping eyelids while you’re internally panicking about the eight lecture videos you still need to watch.

You can make it into a delicious guacamole to munch on with chips. Or I personally love to sprinkle a little salt on top and eat it plain! Avocado is fantastic in the many different ways it can be prepared so it won’t bore you even when your classes do.

Now that you’re armed with everything you need to get yourself through finals week with these snacks for studying, go forth! We believe in you and look forward to your well deserved A’s on those exams.
