Are you a #womanthatdoes who wants to make the most out of your summer fun?

Here are six activities that will help empower you and other #womenthatdo out there.

1 Make A Zine

Zine’s have always been a quintessential element of the feminist movement. Back in the 90’s the Riot Grrrl Movement used zines as a way to spread feminist philosophy, DIY culture and more. Girls would draw, write or collage their own zines for distribution to other women. Get creative this summer and make your own zine! It can be funny, personal, artsy, literary or whatever else you want it to be. As long as it is important to you, it will likely be important to other women too.

2 Try A New Sport With Friends

If you’re looking to build stronger relationship with friends this summer then consider doing a sports activity with them. Hiking, rock climbing or kayaking are all great engaging activities that can help you bond. Not only does it carve out quality time together, but the act of overcoming a challenge will bring you a sense of accomplishment. When women support women, there’s nothing we can’t do.

3 Start A Blog Or A Journal

Starting a blog can be a great way to voice your values and opinions. Take the time this summer to write about topics and issues you care about. Not only will this help gather your thoughts, but it can also be a great way to start a writing portfolio. This can also be a great opportunity to meet other people with similar values. Studies also show that journaling helps your physical and emotional well-being. Writing down your emotions can be a therapeutic, as well as empowering experience.

4 Go On A Women s Retreat

Whether your goal for the summer is fitness, fun or relaxation, going on a women’s retreat can help you fulfill all three. There are a variety of women’s retreats out there tailored to your specific needs. Going on a retreat specifically for women will put you with like-minded people who are looking to empower and enrich themselves. In this type of environment you will find empathy, support and security.

5 Take A Class

Is there a class you’ve always wanted to take or a skill you’ve always wanted to learn? Well, summer is the perfect time to explore your interests. Taking a class at your local community college is a great way to have some summer fun, while still being professionally or personally productive. Whether it’s  gender studies, coding, dance or art, learning something new will help broaden your perspective.

6 Volunteer For A Women’s Organization

If you are passionate about women’s rights and want to take part in the feminist movement, then volunteering is a great way to get involved and have some meaningful summer fun. You’ll be around all types of people working towards the same goal: empowering and helping women. Working with other women in philanthropy will help expose you to a variety of different perspectives and motivations. Give back to your community and fight for what’s right this summer.

However you spend your summer, I encourage you to be a woman that does. Take your summer fun to a new level and make it about empowering yourself and other women.
