In a sign of the changing times, some of the actresses nominated for Oscars have dispensed with the usual boring press statements and instead chosen to express their excitement with GIFs.
Showing the millennials the way is best actress nominee Meryl Streep with a joyous GIF of herself dancing in Paul McCartney’s “Queenie Eye” music video.
Tech-savvy Streep earned her 20th Academy Award nomination for playing the world’s worst singer in comedy-drama “Florence Foster Jenkins.”
“Moonlight” star Naomie Harris reacted to her best supporting actress nomination by sharing a GIF of Terry Crews dancing on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” commenting, “mood.” She also shared her excitement on Twitter, posting, “OMGGGG” along with celebratory emojis.
Octavia Spencer, the 2012 best supporting actress winner for “The Help,” is nominated in the same category this year for “Hidden Figures” and tweeted her excitement and congratulations to fellow nominees.

Her “The Help” co-star Viola Davis got some Oscar love as well, nominated in the same category as Spencer for “Fences.” She shared, “Thank you to @TheAcademy for recognizing this extraordinary, important film and my work in it. Thank you Denzel for being at the helm!”

But Emma Stone, a best actress nominee for “La La Land,” doesn’t use social media so chose to keep it old-school.
She issued a statement, which read, “What a morning. I am so grateful for this honor and I’m so happy to share this feeling with my ‘La La Land’ family.”
The romantic musical, in which she co-stars with best actor nominee Ryan Gosling, received 14 Oscar nominations to tie the record held by “All About Eve” (1950) and “Titanic” (1997).
Also joining in the excitement was “Lion” star Nicole Kidman who reacted to her best supporting actress nomination by sharing this simple but joyous statement, “Woo Hoo!”
“Jackie” star Natalie Portman said she was “honored” by the acknowledgment of a best actress nomination, adding, “I couldn’t be happier to share this moment with our incredible director Pablo Larraín and the entire cast and crew who worked so hard on this film.”
Portman also praised her film’s subject, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, saying she “was a study in strength, compassion, resilience and integrity and she provided hope for our country at a time when it needed it most. It was one of life’s great honors to be able to portray her on film.”

Following last year’s #OscarsSoWhite complaints, which prompted a push towards more diversity among the Academy membership, the 2017 nominations appear to be making strides toward being more inclusive.
Seven of the 20 acting nominations went to people of color, including Denzel Washington from “Fences” and “Moonlight” star Mahershala Ali.
The 89th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air Feb. 26 on ABC.
