Entity reviews the games that will bring out your competitive nature.

When you’re hanging out with your best friends, nothing is more fun than a great board game and bowls of snacks on deck. Or at least that’s what you thought before. Now, you’re regretting the decision because your living room is filled with angry voices and hot-headed people.

So unless you’re looking to temporarily ruin some friendships, avoid these five board games that seem to bring out the worst in people.

1 Monopoly (or Monopoly Deal)

Whether you’re playing the board or the card game, anything monopoly related should be approached with caution. This game is first on the list for obvious reasons – there’s no limit to the treachery and backstabbing that occurs while playing Monopoly. When you’re trying to be in control over everything and have the most money, you’ll stop at nothing to buy out every property on the board. Eventually, the amount of Monopoly money you have in hand becomes more important than what’s in your actual bank account. (P.S. Has anyone actually finished a game of Monopoly?)

2 Twister

More of a “floor” game than a board game, Twister will definitely make you hate your friends. All seems fine and dandy until you get too close for comfort. Who wants to smell your friend’s sweaty armpits or fall into his or her crotch? And did you just get pushed over? Probably.

3 Pictionary

You think your friends would be smart enough to know what a refrigerator looks like, but clearly not. What starts out as a fun, “artistic” game turns to a screaming match and getting mad at the opposite team for yelling out the answers.

4 Battleship

Sure, it seems like a harmless game of strategy. Don’t be fooled; this game can definitely make you angry. For the electronic versions, hearing the sound of one of your ships blowing up can be deeply frustrating. How did your friend know the location of every ship on the  board?

And if you’re playing the board game across one of your friends, this game brings out the “cheater” insults because, clearly, your opponent must have looked on your side while you weren’t paying attention.

5 Scrabble

“That’s not even a real word!” “Yes, it is!” This is a typical argument that takes place during Scrabble. When it does, everyone has to take a break and look the word up in a dictionary. But if you’re not busy verifying the legitimacy of the words your friends are spelling, then you’re accusing them of cheating online with a word generator. Your friend can’t possibly know what “muzjiks” means at the top of her head, can she? (FYI: It means “a Russian peasant.”)
