Wales church bans yoga for being non-Christian, Entity reports.

Because apparently it is “non-Christian.”

It’s an exercise, so I’m not really sure how it’s taken a stance on religious issues. But bear with me here.

St. David’s Church in Ceredigion, Wales is being converted into a community center after complaints that Blaenporth lacked facilities.

So it seems like the transition is inspired by the village’s needs, right? Well, the Parochial Church Council (PCC) wasn’t quite thrilled with giving up that much control. So they took it upon themselves to set up some ground rules before the community center has even been finished.

Mainly – yoga would not be allowed in the planned center. But don’t worry, pilates is totally okay, for some reason. Apparently it’s because yoga “teaches participants to focus on oneself, instead of on the one true God.” Wow.

They’ve also banned tai chi, taekwondo, cash prize bingo “and the like.” The PCC is holding firm to their rules, saying that “activities that might be seen to be in conflict with Christian values and belief would not be appropriate.” Okay, let’s all just calm down.

If that is the reasoning behind banning yoga, how can you make that distinction between yoga and pilates? Or any kind of exercise class for that matter. Let’s just go full Tyler Durden – “Self-improvement is masturbation.” And I know y’all don’t think that is very Christian-like.

Village residents have already spoken out against the church, with one person writing a letter to the Aberporth Community Council. “I, for one, will not be dictated to as to what activity events are open to me. Therefore, I will not be visiting this establishment for recreational enjoyment until a fair and non-bias community centre is built,” they wrote.

Can you blame them? Like, how relaxing and fun can a community center be if it’s run by a bunch of Sparrows and a little baby Faith Militant, banning you from healthy, wholesome stress relievers like yoga? At this point it’d be better to just stay home and do your own exercise with a video on YouTube.

So much for bringing the community together.
