Entity reports as The Walking Dead slays Empire in social media war.

Zombie drama “The Walking Dead” is by far the most discussed TV show on Facebook and Twitter.

The AMC series has almost three times as many social media interactions as its nearest rival, Fox’s hip-hop hit “Empire,” according to a new survey by ratings measurement firm Nielsen.

That company has started measuring  postings as well as viewing figures because such numbers help TV networks set advertising rates for their shows by giving a further indication of audience interest. especially among the 18-49 demographic which is seen as most valuable to advertisers. As Facebook and Twitter are public companies, they are invested in the process too because  having those numbers be especially significant adds to the value of their firms.

In terms of viewers, “The Walking Dead” is American TV’s most watched show with 18-49’s, boasting 11.27 million weekly viewers in that demographic while “The Big Bang Theory” is number two. But that CBS sitcom doesn’t make the top ten in social.

With 3.2 million combined Facebook and Twitter posts per episode, “The Walking Dead” is showing the most life on social. The shocking deaths of key characters in the Oct. 23 2016 episode were the most discussed TV show storyline on social media last year.

Here is the complete top 10 of most socialed shows from Nielsen’s just published Social Media Report.
