She has been making YouTube videos for 10 years.
Michelle Phan has been around since the beginning of YouTube.
She was the first woman on YouTube to reach a billion views. But, there’s more under her belt than just being a YouTube personality. In addition, she’s also an entrepreneur.
She is an inspiration to young women all around the world. Michelle shows her audience that with hard work and passion, anything is possible.
Here are five facts about Michelle Phan.
As mentioned above, Michelle is one of the more famous YouTubers. In 2007 she started making videos on YouTube. Prior to making YouTube videos, she was posting onto Xanga. She is known for posting makeup tutorials and her pillow talk series.
On YouTube she has posted over 200 videos and currently has 8.9 million subscribers. In 2014 she reached one billion views which was a HUGE accomplishment! (Way to go, Michelle.)
In 2013 Michelle started up Em Cosmetics in partnership with L’oreal. However, it quickly failed. Some customers liked the products, but believed the asking price was too high. Meanwhile, other customers bought from the brand just because they were fans of Michelle. Now, four years later, Michelle has completely relaunched Em Cosmetics.
Michelle co-founded Ipsy. At first it was called MyGlam, but later it was renamed. It is a monthly makeup subscription box. For $10 a month subscribers will receive items that Michelle and her team of stylists have tried, and love. This is a great choice for people who love makeup and want to try different products without having to break the bank.
In 2014 Michelle released a book titled “Make Up: Your Life Guide to Beauty, Style, and Success–Online and Off.” This book compiles advice that Michelle wanted to share with her audience.
Whether it was how to do a smokey eye or how to contour, it’s in this book. This was Michelle’s opportunity to reach her audience without it being online.
Being sued does not sound like fun. And, this happened to Michelle a few times. She was being sued for copyright infringement by Ultra Records. Ultra Records claimed that Michelle had been using their artists’ music without permission.
Copyright infringement is using something that has been copyrighted without permission. In addition, according to BBC News, one of the artists that Ultra Records represents had allowed Michelle to use his music. Later, both parties decided to settle the case outside of the courtroom. No further information was made available to the public.
Michelle had been actively posting on YouTube since 2007. Prior to publishing on Youtube, she had a personal blog. And, Michelle is not the first YouTube personality to speak out on how success can become addicting.
She ended up leaving the social media world for nine months. In her most recent video she explains why she needed to take the break that she did. Michelle says that she doesn’t know what her future holds, but she just wants to create.
Michelle has created a multi-million dollar career based off of her YouTube channel. She is a creative force who inspires her audience to feel beautiful on the inside and out.
