Entity's list of the best summer TV shows.

1 Game of Thrones

HBO Sundays 9pm

If you’re not watching Game of Thrones, what have you been doing with your time? You must have been living under a rock somewhere without a television or a twitter if you haven’t been. This season we revisit Westeros, and the lands beyond in a fight for the iron throne.  Prepare yourself for some heartbreak and some tears , though if you’re a regular of the show you probably already knew that.  Or perhaps you’re like Jon Snow, you know nothing.

2 Preacher

AMC Sundays 9/8c

Comics being made into AMC television shows is nothing new  nowadays. With shows like The Walking Dead crushing ratings, its no doubt that Preacher will do the same. Based on the Vertigo comic book of the same name written by Garth Brooks, Preacher follows Jesse Custer, a small town Texan preacher  , who is possessed by a mysterious supernatural force which gives him strange powers . He is thrust into a world that is volatile, irreverent and strange.  The show stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, Ruth Negga as Tulip, Jesse Custer’s ex-girlfriend, and Joseph Gilgun, as Cassidy who is described as an “ Irish vagabond {that} is a glutton for every possible vice”.  The show’s absurd, violent, comedic, tone is worth a watch.

3 Chefs Table

Netflix

This show is perfect for any foodie, wanna be foodie, or hungry person. The Netflix exclusive series profiles unique and world-renowned chefs.  Visually this show is stunning. You can expect close up shots of vegetables, sprawling wide shots of landscapes, and almost intimate shots of plates of pasta.  This current season of the show premiered on May 27th and profiles chefs ranging from Alex Atala in San Paulo , Brazil to Dominique Creen in San Francisco.  Trust me, its worth a watch. Though, a warning, it will make you hungry.

4 Lady Dynamite

Netflix

Netflix has gone and done it again. They initially knocked it out of the park with Orange is the New Black and Lady Dynamite follows in its footsteps. This comedy not only stars Maria Bamford but is loosely based on her life. She plays a fictionalized version of herself who has returned  to Los Angeles after 6 months of recovery from bipolar disorder.  The show addresses mental health in a respectful way and yet is entirely comedic. Worth a watch.

5 American Gothic

CBS Wednesday 10pm

For any fans who are missing American Horror Story, in the summer American Gothic is a must watch. This show is a thriller , mystery and lives up to its name. According to Variety, the show is about “a prominent Boston family reeling in the wake of the chilling discovery that someone in their midst is linked to an infamous string of murders.”  Made by Speilbergs Amblin Television, the show will give you the chills, enough to cool you down in this hot summer heat.
