Entity presents our favorite female fashion models who double as businesswomen.

If you’re interested in becoming like one of the female fashion models you see at New York Fashion Week, you’re going to have to work extremely hard for your five minutes in the sunshine. As the fashion trends and fads wax and wane for every season models also find that their work load behaves similarly.

That’s why having another career after modeling is a good idea for anyone before they plan on living off of a modeling career. There may be many examples of people who were able to made a big name for themselves through modeling alone, but there are also women in the world who used their modeling career to start other businesses within the fashion world.

Here are three such women who did just that.

1 Kathy Ireland

Kathy Ireland is one of the most famous examples of women who successfully crossed over from modeling into the business world. She designed her own clothing line and licensed her name to retail markets where she made a hefty profit off retail sales. This is on top of the hugely successful designing empire she built in 1993.

2 Abugida Fashion

Ex-model turns to fashion design and helps Ethiopian women in her community as well? A beautiful woman and a beautiful story! Hiwot Gishaw always loved fashion and design, so transitioning from one career to the other was a no-brainer for this entrepreneur. Not only is her clothing line, Abugida Fashion, a unique cultural clothing icon, but her business model employs women in her area who were formerly homeless or who had no other jobs.

3 Coco Rocha

Coco Rocha started her clothing line, Co+Co, earlier this year after a successful career as a supermodel. The line was tailored for business and tech minded women who lead a busy lifestyle. That doesn’t mean, however, that they want to sacrifice fashion for comfort. Rocha’s chic and intelligently designed clothing bring out the fashionista-business woman in all of us.
