Entity reviews why the Thousand Islands regions is the best vacation destination.

Not everyone scribbles the Thousand Islands region as #1 on their travel bucket list, but this is definitely a place no woman should  miss.

For those of you who have never heard of it, the Thousand Islands is an archipelago of nearly 1,800 islands between the U.S. and Canadian border near Lake Ontario in upstate New York. According to TIME, the islands run for about 50 miles along the Saint Lawrence River between New York and Canada and “range in size from Wolf Island at 40 square miles down to just a few square feet of rocks with one tree.” TIME even notes that the rocks have to have at least one tree to be officially considered as part of the Thousand Islands.

Depending on the island you visit, your trip here can be an adventure of a lifetime or you can just relax and enjoy the beauty. The region offers something for every man or woman.

Scenic cruises, water taxis and boat tours are available, but you will have to call ahead to book one. Boating tours usually include historical facts and legends of the area that will connect you to the heritage and culture of the islands. There are also countless maritime museums featuring art, antique boats and replicas. The Antique Boat Museum in Clayton has over 300 restored boats floating across four acres and they hold an Antique Boat Show every summer.

For those that enjoy a little more adventure, the Thousand Islands also offers paddling, fishing and diving so you can dive deep into the waters beneath the surface of the islands. But, if you’re looking to stay dry, Thousand Islands is also home to several state parks that will accommodate your picnic and camping needs. For those a bit older, follow the Seaway Wine Trail and taste some of the finest wines from family-owned wineries.

However, to fully grasp the beauty and character of the Islands, it is essential to hop on a boat. You’ll pass abandoned islands with overgrown greenery and some that feature Victorian houses and masonry castles that remain as international landmarks. The most well-known castles are the elegant, artistically designed Boldt Castle and “The Towers” on Dark Island. These castles are a must-see for every traveling man or woman.

After a long day of adventure, close the day by relaxing on the waterfront as you watch the sky change into different shades of purple, pink and orange. And if you come in the spring, the Thousand Islands website assures that you will be able to “smell the sweet aroma of maple sugar shacks on both sides of the U.S./Canada border.”

What are you waiting for?
