Entity tells you how to cook a steak on the grill in 7 easy steps.

Tired of needing a man to “man” the grill while you’re stuck inside cooking more “lady-like” things like the salad and the sides?

It is officially time to learn how to cook steak on the grill — and to get you and your girlfriends hanging outside around the grill with a couple “cold ones.”

The salads and sides might go seriously downhill this summer as we hand them over to the men, but we’re ready to handle the meat.

Here are 7 steps to help you cook a steak in a way that is sure to one-up the men:

1 Thaw the Steaks.

No matter what kind of steaks you’re choosing to cook, you want to make sure they’re thawed all the way through to ensure that your steaks cook evenly. We suggest removing them from the freezer about 25-30 minutes before cooking them.

2 Fire Up the Grill.

Entity tells you how to cook a steak on the grill in 7 easy steps.

The second step in how to cook a steak is to make sure the grill is turned all the way up. You want the grill as hot as possible when grilling steaks. So turn it on high or throw those charcoals in plenty early and let the the grate on the grill get searing hot.

Tip: If you’re using a charcoal grill, tell the men you’re arranging the charcoals in a two-zone fire. If you don’t already know what this term means, you will basically be putting all the coals on one side of the grill so that one half is much hotter than the other half and you can place the steaks on the grill accordingly.

This makes it much less stressful, if you think one is cooking too fast you can move it to the less hot side of the grill.

3 Prep the Steak.

Once your steak is thawed, it is time to trim and season it. First, you should trim off the excess fat before seasoning it. Even though as women we obviously want to out-do our counterparts at every possible opportunity, it is best to stay simple when seasoning the steak.

If you have a family steak rub that you traditionally use, go right ahead, but we recommend using liberal amounts of salt and pepper to season the steak. And don’t forget the other side.

4 Sear the Steak.

Now that your steak is aptly seasoned and ready to go, it is time to get that bad boy on the grill. First you should place the steaks on the hottest part of the grill and sear them for two to three minutes. Then flip them and sear on the other side for two to three minutes (you should probably set a timer, just in case you’ve had a few drinks).

While searing, keep the grill closed as much as possible to make sure the entire steak is cooking and not just the outside.

Tip: Even though we tend to micromanage to ensure perfection, don’t move the steaks around too much with the tongs if you want to get those perfect (and totally Instagramable grill marks).

5 Move Steaks to Warm Side of Grill.

Now that you have those great grill marks, if your steaks aren’t done yet, move them to the side of the grill that is not directly over the coals. If you’re cooking on a gas grill, you can move the steaks away from the center of the grill where it tends to be hottest and closer to the edges where it’s probably cooler.

Don’t get lost in conversation, if you burn the steaks after asking to take over, we promise you will never hear the end of it.

6 Check if Steak is Done.

You’re almost done learning how to cook a steak. Using a meat thermometer, you can check to see if your steaks are done by inserting the thermometer while the steaks are still on the grill.

You want to keep the steaks on the grill while you read the thermometer in case you need to keep cooking them. Below you can find the temperatures you want the thermometer to read depending on how you want your steak cooked.

Tip: If you took the steaks off a few seconds early and need them to cook a little longer, tightly cover them in tin foil to help them keep cooking a little longer.

7 Let the Steak (and you) Rest.

Once your steak reads your desired temperature, you should remove them from the grill and place them on a plate so they can “rest” for about 5 minutes. The temperature will continue to rise a few degrees before they’re cool enough to eat.

Tip: If you want to add a little more flavor (or if you want to hide that your steaks look a little dry), rub a little bit of butter over your finished product. Is there anything that butter doesn’t make better?

Grab a drink and enjoy. We are sure the men will want to turn over the reins once they’ve tried your new delicious skill.
