You probably think of Kris as the ‘cool mom’ who has a tendency to embarrass her daughters. And yes, when Kylie Jenner had friends over she did ask them, “Do you think Justin Bieber is hot?” But she’s also created a career for all of them. She taught them to speak up for themselves. The show originally started as a –well not simple, these are the Kardashians, but standard—family reality show. And then she created “an entire empire” according to an interview with Ryan Seacrest by Haute Living. It all started when Kris decided to become Caitlyn’s manager back when she was known as “Bruce.” Since she was accustomed to a certain lifestyle, she needed to find a way to make money. Starting from there she had her spouse create workout video’s, and they were really popular.
Shortly after her reality show started, and she flowed right into the managing business for her daughters. Let’s go through the Kardashian family and see how Kris has helped and inspired all of her daughters to become business women themselves.
1. Kim Kardashian West
Kris’ next challenge in managing was very closely related to Kim’s career. Around the start of the reality show Kim’s sex tape was leaked. Kris made a controversial comment: “As a mother I was mad, but as her manager…” Juggling the two jobs was hard for Kris. The two don’t mix well. Also FYI, the show started with 898,000 viewers and ended with 1.9 million (yeah, thanks Kim). The tape was reportedly sold for 5 million dollars to Vivid (which became one of the highest selling DVD’s for the company). Kim soon became the most famous daughter of the Kardashian-Jenner clan. Besides her interesting love life, Kim has had a lot of business deals in the fashion industry – something Kris has always encouraged her daughters to explore. There’s also the Kardashian app that’s also insanely popular and Kim Kardashian emojis are on everybody’s to download list. She can charge over $250,000 to show up at an event. Oh, and let’s not forget she is basically outshining her rich, famous husband.
2. Kendall Jenner
Often seen as the most ‘normal’ of the daughters, Kendall has made a name for herself in the fashion industry as a model. Fighting for the right to be taken seriously, Kris has always been on her side as her momanager. Kris asks her daughters “Is this something we love? Is this something we would like to buy? Is this something we would like to see?” As a result, Kendall was ready to pursue her passion. Kendall has written on her website that she’s always turned to her mom for advice. No surprise we’ve seen her in several magazines so far, Vogue included. In the 2015 issue of Forbes’ highest paid models she ranked number 16. She and Kylie have even set up several of their own clothing lines. So even though the show is called Keeping up with the Kardashians, the Jenners are also definitely in the game.
4. Kylie Jenner
Maybe the daughter in the tabloids the least, she’s recently created her own lipstick line. When rumors came out that Kylie had plastic surgery on her lips, media went crazy. She wasn’t even 18! But Kris managed the rumors in such a way that Kylie owned the story. And just look—we’re all running to the stores to get her latest lipstick.
5. Khloe Kardashian
Khloe and Kourtney are so popular they’ve had their own spin offs from the show—think Khloe & Kourtney take Miami. Khloe has proven to be a good foil for Kim. She’s more down to earth and calls Kim out on her over dramatic outbursts. Sure, it’s not that unusual to find in a family, but it’s also a smart of Kris to explicitly position the two as opposites in their television show. Khloe has made her own mark as being ‘the bigger one’ of the family and how she got to the weight she wanted. Since she’s portrayed herself as the more ‘approachable’ daughter, she’s recently ventured in creating her own talk show.
6. Kourtney Kardashian
Kourtney is best known as the one with the successful marriage and children. Sadly, Scott Disick and Kourtney broke up recently, but Kourtney is not going to let herself feel down. She is still very active in D-A-S-H fashion, the line she and Khloe created, and even though the relationship with Kourtney and Kris hasn’t always entirely smooth sailing Kourtney would definitely not be where she is today without her mother.
The Kardashians are not afraid to make their own name, their very person, into a brand. As a result, they do have to give up many private aspects of their personal life. They are shown displaying all ranges of emotion—crying, exchanging words out of anger, times they can be just downright mean, all on display for everyone to see. Sure sounds like a ‘first-world-problem,’ but always being viewed with a magnifying glass can’t always be easy. There’s a thing about magnifying glasses—if you angle the glass just so, you can slowly but surely set what you’re looking at on fire. You don’t have to be their biggest fans to respect how they handle the constant spotlight. Kris Jenner is the Mother Goose and keeps them going in the right direction, and it’s something she should definitely be recognized for. She is an insanely good businesswoman!
