ENTITY shares essential poverty programs.

If you’re struggling to put food on table each night and you need a helping hand, Entity is here to help. You shouldn’t be afraid to ask for aid in your situation. According to WebMD, a US Department of Agriculture study showed that you and 49 million other Americans are struggling to provide food for themselves and their families. We understand that life has its ups and downs, but we also understand that there are ways to make those down moments a lot more manageable. Here are five programs you should consider taking advantage of if you’re living below the poverty line.

WhyHunger National Hunger Hotline

Anyone who is struggling to feed themselves can call this non-profit hotline and receive information about local resources available to them. Whether it be food pantries or miscellaneous assistance programs, this hotline can help you take the first steps to getting back on your feet. They’ll walk you through government assistance programs as well, and help you with any application processes that you may have trouble with. Get more information here.

Feeding America

This non-profit organization provides a network of food banks across the entire country to aid those fighting hunger. By going to their website, you can locate a food bank, donate, or figure out how to get involved. They have tons of different specific programs, such as the mobile food pantry program, school pantry program, senior grocery program, and the SNAP outreach program.

SNAP Outreach Program

A deviation of Feeding America, the SNAP outreach program is meant to help people on the federal entitlement program with the resources to make healthy and nutritionally sound dietary choices. SNAP is the government run Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly the Food Stamp Program). According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, it provides aid to 45 million Americans. When those Americans need help figuring out how to create a strong and nutritious meal plan, the SNAP Outreach Program is there to help. You can get more information about the program here.

Gaballi Food Boxes

If groceries are too expensive, try the Gaballi food box program. You can save up to 70% off retail price for groceries. The boxes include fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, packaged goods, and pre prepared foods. The faith based company does not require any proof of income, and is often hosted through local church sites. You can find a local host and read more on their website.

Government Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)

Under this program, each state will receive an excess of food from the federal government. This food is then distributed to food pantries, social service offices, food banks, and charities to distribute this food. They offer a wide variety of food products, and those who are qualified can receive meats, canned foods, pastas, milk, and other food products for free. To find out more about applying and the program itself, visit their website here.
