Food Entity

Everyone wants to be an influencer, but what does it take to make yourself stand out? Maria Nguyen, the founder and creative director behind The Art of Plating, has the answer.

Many people think being an influencer you’re “Instagram famous.” Instead, Maria defines an influencer as someone who has the capacity to have an effect on how people think. Maria Nguyen has over 830K followers on Instagram, but she emphasized it’s not always about the numbers. It should be about what you are passionate about and how it can benefit those around you.

Here are three things to keep in mind if you want to become an influencer.

1. Find Your Mission

To be a successful influencer on social media, Nguyen says you have to remember that “being an influencer is the by-product of doing something meaningful.”

The most influential people tend to have a clear message or content they want to share with the world. So ask yourself, what you are passionate about? What motivates you? How can you impact the world?

“Food and art are universal languages and when you put them together, it can be extremely powerful,” says Nguyen.

2. Create Your Vision

When you answer those questions, don’t sell yourself short. Whatever you choose, make sure you live the true life you are presenting to the world. Stay authentic in your life and in your work. Yes, you will fail and hear endless “no’s” but if you are wanting to create and share something with the world that you are passionate about, your vision will become a reality.

3. Build Your Tribe

We all know it is important to always network because it helps you expand your business, make new connections, and possibly find someone who can help you excel in your career. But think about this, every person you meet has the potential to become one of your biggest supporters. Sometimes it is not just about who you know. Find a close group of supporters of people who will be there to help you through the good, the bad, and the ugly.
