Congrats! You made it! You’re a working woman who has used her education and hard-won skills to ace that interview and get a job. Question is: how do you keep it? Work life and job security can be major sources of stress. But you have the power to turn that stress into success. Here’s a list of positive affirmations for work to keep your spirits high and your anxiety low.

“Luck is preparation meeting opportunity. If you hadn’t been prepared when the opportunity came along, you wouldn’t have been lucky.”

Take all the “Good lucks” and “Best wishes” from your friends and family and stuff ’em in your shiny new briefcase. But take a minute to think critically. Recognize that you got this job because you were prepared enough to take on the opportunity of a lifetime. That deserves a pat on the back. Let this quote from Oprah ring in your head every time you feel like a fish out of water. There’s a learning curve to a new job. Take every moment of it to learn. The more you learn, the more prepared you are. The more prepared you are, the easier it is for you to manage any anxiety you may have.

If you’re still feeling anxious, here are some more positive affirmations to help you keep your anxiety in check.

“I am inimitable, I am an original.”

Walking past the rows of desks to your new cubicle, it can be hard to remember who you are in a large company. You don’t have to feel lost in a sea of new faces with people who’ve been at their jobs longer than you. Don’t compare yourself to your coworkers. But if you do, remember the qualities that you have. They set you apart and will either be the strengths that you can grow, or the weaknesses that you can grow from. Be like Hamilton and make sure not to throw away your shot.

“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”

Trying to maintain a positive disposition can be tough if you view it as a task that only benefits you. Keeping yourself happy or making friends with your new colleagues is a great way to see the positive impact you have in the workplace. Your arrival at a new job could mean the start of a life long relationship with your coworkers. Navigating office drama or dealing with difficulties in your work isn’t an issue you’ll have to tackle alone. As your desk buddy gets demotivated, be a ray of sunshine for them and for others. Maya Angelou says to “be a rainbow“, so grab a set of watercolours and paint yourself with positivity.

If you’re a bit more introverted and making friends with your coworkers is scarier than ‘Get Out’, then try these introvert specific tips to help you make the most of your new workplace.

Lastly, from me:

“Burn bright, don’t burn out.”

We all need positive affirmations for work to keep us going through the day. But we need to control our energy to keep consistently putting out quality work. The best piece of advice my dad ever taught me was to “manage your energy, not your time”. There are 24 hours in a day and eight hours in your work day, so you’ve got to keep track of how your energy fluctuates. Make sure to take a five minute break whenever you need it, but take advantage of any bursts of energy you get throughout the day. That’ll help to feed the fire in you and keep it burning brightly throughout your whole career.

You’ve got a good head on your shoulders, with a personality to stand out. But most importantly, you got this. Now you’re ready to be a #Womanthatdoes.
