Entity's lists 5 reasons you should decorate with maps.

When decorating a living or work space, our typical go to is to put up a painting. So, you start looking for paintings that would complement the environment you have already created for yourself, and you put them up. Before you know it, you have basically created a personalized gallery—which is awesome—but don’t you want to spice it up a bit more? Another item that takes up wall space and has numerous designs to meet your taste is a world map. And here is why you should make this addition now:

1. Helps Decrease Self-Centeredness

As Americans, we are constantly living in our own bubbles thinking and acting in a way that suggests we are the center of the universe and that we are the only group of people that matter. Sometimes it feels like people forget there is a whole other world out there. Coming home to a map can help serve as a reminder that we are tiny dots in this enormous sphere we call Earth.

2. Aesthetically Pleasing

This is very important when decorating your space. You want your area to look good, and maps help you to achieve this goal. There are tons of different designs for maps, just like there is a variety of painting styles, so take advantage of this! Your perfect map awaits you.

3. Sparks Imagination

Using your imagination is one of the best things you could ever do because it takes you to a world you want to be in. And if you are proactive, it serves as an influence for the life you are going to create for yourself. When you look at a map and see all of the countries, territories, and cities, you begin to wonder about those locations and start creating your own world.

4. Encourages Exploration

Once your imagination continues to develop and bring places like Timor Leste to the forefront of your mind, you start to wonder if you’re even imagining the right place. What better way to know for yourself than to see it for yourself? You catch me drift? Get out there and explore the world!

5. Educational

Whether it be Acapulco, Mexico or Sofia, Bulgaria that you stumble upon while scanning your map, it will quickly occur to you that you probably don’t know as much about the world as you thought you did. If you have a map that has coloring coordinated with deserts and forests, you may be surprised to see how much green actually exists in the world (yes, there is actually grass in Africa. Yes, I have had to tell someone that). Maps are great ways to familiarize and teach yourself about the world’s geography.

Another thing you can do with a map is but color coordinated pins on places you have been and places you want to go. It will serve as a visual reminder not only of what it is you want to do, but what you have already done. So, what are you waiting for? Go get your map!
