Entity shares five ways to reinvigorate your space Roaring 20's style.

Usually, when people think of the “roaring twenties,” they often imagine bold, youthful and trendy fashion or beauty choices. Women may envision costumes and makeup similar to that in Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby.” Think: flapper girls, short dresses and dark lipstick.

However, audiences tend to overlook the grandeur of twenties home design. The next time you’re looking for a historical design influence, don’t just look at 1920s fashion – use this fantastic era as artistic inspiration for your home. Here are five design elements from the twenties that you can incorporate into your space.

1 RADIO.

Having a radio in your car might seem like an obvious necessity, but radios in the twenties weren’t just limited to automobiles. Radios were everywhere, including the home. The personal home radio was a staple item for fashionable 1920s women or men.

When Frank Conrad and Gugliemo Maconi invented the commercial radio in the late 19th century, it was an instant success. The first radio broadcast happened on November 1920, and by the end of 1922 there were 500 more across the United States. Although many people now have televisions in their homes, adding a classic radio like this one can give any room a trendy, vintage twenties vibe.

2 WALLPAPER.

Art Deco was an incredibly influential style movement of the 1920s. Think about the set of the novel and movie, “The Great Gatsby.” Intricate geometric patterns were everywhere, especially as part of home design. These designs were featured in home architectural elements but also added a hint of glam to interior design.

3 STAINED GLASS.

In the 1920s, you could find elegant stained glass all over the place. Because of Art Deco’s influence, people frequently used clear glass to create textural contrast with the glass design. These designs were put on front doors as style accents that increased a home’s beauty.

4 CHROME.

Chrome may seem like an element of the future but it’s also a thing of the past. Chrome plating became trendy in the mid-1920s.  Chrome plating became a commercial entity from Ink and Eldridge in 1924. With this innovation, growth of chrome plating increased and chrome light fixtures became very stylish.

5 OSTRICH FEATHERS.

Putting ostrich feathers in your home may seem like a radical and even ridiculous idea, but it doesn’t have to be. In the 1920s, these feathers created decadent looks that combined the Hollywood and safari styles of the time. Because of these trends, these feathers were not only found on clothing, they were also inside the home. They exemplified the height of glamour and elegance.
