Also known as MOBA, the museum adds some groovy flavor to the Boston, Massachusetts area. It has proudly displayed popular yet terrible works of art since 1994. To put it simply, this is a museum created by the untalented common person for the untalented common person. Whether you’re an artist, a wannabe or just want a good laugh, this is the museum for you.
Want to get your feminism on? Then if you’re heading out to the Midwest on vacation, don’t miss the Guerilla Girls 30th anniversary exhibit at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Included are 88 posters by the anonymous women’s art group, which advocates for gender and racial equality in the art world. The exhibit runs until December 31, 2016 so why not add this museum to your 2016 bucket list?
Whether you’re promoting equality in class, race, gender or economic status, you’ll feel right at home at The Black Show. In fact, if you find yourself on the East coast, you must stop by Rodney McMillian’s exhibit at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. McMillian has created short films that capture America’s often-overlooked “unraveling of social justice,” sometimes using sci-fi imagery to convey his message. Other art pieces by McMillian – from sculptures to room-sized installations – also appear among the videos, adding dimension and tangibility to viewers’ experience. Check out this fascinating exhibit before it closes on August 14!
Ever dream about finding Atlantis? This London exhibit shares the story of the men and women who actually did! Divers in the Mediterranean Sea discovered ancient Egyptian artifacts from the city of Thonis-Heracleion, a hub for commercial trade and worship of Egyptian gods. Preserved for hundreds of years by the Mediterranean Sea, fine jewelry and colossal statues are on display in ridiculously good condition at the British Museum for a limited time. Make your way to Great Britain before November 27 to see this exhibit in the flesh and experience history at your fingertips.
Ciao Italy! This exhibit featuring the works of Thomas Demand, a German artist, is a must-see for those spending time in the beautiful Mediterranean paradise of Milan, Italy. Demand seeks to redefine the boundaries between originality and appropriation, exploring how inspiration is related to simply copying a style. After indulging in some fine wine and taking your midday stroll, bring yourself over to this Italian museum before the exhibit closes on August 21.
Yes, we saved the best for last. If these creepy crawlers don’t send you running in the other direction, head down south to the city of Plano, Texas for this hilariously ridiculous museum. Only in the Lone Star State will you find cockroaches dressed in the garb and likeness of famous celebrities and historical figures. If you’re able to handle dead cockroaches, you’re all set – but watch out for the Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches also on display.
