[nggallery id=208 template=carousel images=8][imagebrowser id=208] By Courtney Hayden May 22, 2012 LONG BEACH, CA — Against the backdrop of 2008’s the plummeting economy, a small group of environmentally-conscious Southern Californians decided to create an event that would build community and support sustainability in their neighborhood. At the time, a single organic farmers market existed in Long Beach. The organizers combined the farmers market with the city’s Art Walk, and the Green Long Beach Festival was born. Long Beach is about to celebrate the festival for the fourth time, and it has now become a huge showcase for environmentally friendly information, businesses, resources, and education. The event has grown from 1,500 attendees to an expected 3,000. The vision of a community-driven event, however, remains: all funding is being provided by local businesses, and attendance is free. Sierra Club Green Home invites you to join in the festivities on Saturday, June 9 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.!
