What’s up with all the random For Dummies books? Though we admit C++ is an amazing software system, most of us probably won’t ever need to know how to code with it. (If you didn’t even recognize the name C++, then my point has been made.) Are there any For Dummies books that are actually helpful? We’re just trying to get our self-improvement on. Maybe we want to learn how to make macaroons or play poker or something. Luckily for you, we’ve compiled a list of For Dummies books that are actually helpful and useful!

  • Calligraphy 

If there is only one good reason for knowing how to do calligraphy, it’s so you can write authentic letters from the Tooth Fairy to your children. Fortunately, there are actually many reasons to know how to do calligraphy. Everyone appreciates a hand written thank you letter, especially one with a gorgeous font.

  • Baking 

Hey, f*ck baking as a way to be a good wife. Bake for you! If you want fudge filled brownies on a Saturday morning, then make them for yourself. You deserve a treat. (And maybe bring a couple to the office too? Kathy from accounting will literally swoon.)

  • Appetizers 

Do you have friends? Do you like to have your friends over to your house? Perfect. Um, can someone say yes please? We all know sushi is easily the best thing that’s happened in the world of fish and rice. Now there’s a book you can read to make it yourself? Could life get better? I might grab a copy myself and make a few hundred rolls, which I will eat promptly after making them. It’s a casual addiction. It’s chill.

  • Budget Weddings 

If you’re planning on getting married someday, hopefully you’ll have some sort of budget. After accounting for flower arrangements, catering, and table settings, you could be majorly busting your budget. Grab a copy of Budget Weddings For Dummies so you can make sure your big day goes off without a hitch!

  • Houseplants 

We’re all guilty of buying a bunch of houseplants in a wave of motivation and then allowing them to die. What were once beautiful lush pots of flowers and succulents are now sad and dry. Maybe next time you should pick up a Houseplants For Dummies book beforehand, just for insurance.

  • Flirting
