Being green is about adopting a complete set of ethics, morals, and values where you live in harmony with nature and are an environmentally and socially responsible global citizen. Responsibility does not have a price tag. It is a conscious effort to make sensible and smart decisions about how to live well, while reducing harmful and negative effects on your home, community, and the planet. (Krappweis, Stock.Xchng)

Environmentalism is much more than purchasing trendy green products from a hip website. It is not about being on the cutting edge of product style and fashion so that your neighbors will turn green….with envy, that is. Being green is not something you can buy, even though consumer choices can be a part of it.

Try to be more conscious in your daily life. It sounds cliché, but think before you act. Is there a better way to do the task? Can you find an alternative way that saves on electricity or fuel? Can you reduce the amount of waste you create? Can you get this product used, or from an ethical company?

Environmental conservation, preservation, and protection are hot issues in the United States, and around the globe. Personal environmental consciousness varies greatly among people, ranging from casino online no concern whatsoever to activists who go to extremes to protect the environment.

Reaching other people matters. When the people around us live more consciously, sticking to it comes naturally. You can lead by example and also made specific suggestions, such as asking your family members to keep reusable bags in their car trunks (or bike baskets). Young people especially can benefit from environmental education, and often make lifestyle changes quickly.

A harmonious balance is the most effective way to live your life and maintain a peaceful coexistence with the planet. No one is asking you to abandon your entire way of life. It is all about adopting sensible environmental values and using them consistently. You can get ideas for how to go greener from Sierra Club Green Home’s Home Health Quiz and our Green Education Section.

Try to make a small change to improve your environmental behavior each day. Think of it this way: each small change is taking a step towards your goal. After one year, you will have taken 365 steps towards your goal of being an environmentally and socially responsible global citizen. There is no finish line, because it is a never-ending process. There will always be a greener, better, cleaner, safer, and more responsible way to do everything. We can keep learning, and we can enjoy learning to be green.
