Country lover or not, everyone knows about Carrie Underwood and her inspirational journey from regular college student to top tier country singer. She made it big not because of whom she knew or a lucky occurrence, she made it to the top from her talents and America’s support.

Born on March 10, 1983 in a little town called Checotah in Oklahoma, Underwood was a true country girl from the start. She was raised on a farm and sang in the church during her childhood. She moved on to college and studied mass communication at Northeastern State College, and she intended on pursuing a career in broadcast journalism. Her regular life would soon change drastically. She choose to chase her dream, so she auditioned for American Idol in St. Louis, Missouri and went on to not just have a place in the 12 finalists, but to become the winner of that entire season’s show.

Everyone was in love. She was freshening up the country scene with all of her talent. Her debut single, “Inside Your Heaven,” came out the summer after she was titled 2005’s American Idol. Her debut album, Some Hearts, came out as well and ruled on Billboard’s Top Ten for the rest of the year with top hits like “Jesus Take the Wheel”. This song was the first of hers to top the charts and even did so for six weeks. The song won countless awards from the Country Music Awards to the Gospel Music Association. Her success doesn’t stop there. Underwood released another single called; “Before He Cheats” and this song became another top country hit. She was showered in accolades and awards that year. At the Billboard Music Awards, she was named Top 200 Female Artist of the Year, Female Country Artist, and New Country Artist. Her album not only got Country Album of the Year, but also just Album of the Year.

In 2007, her success kept on flowing while Underwood was already working on her second album, her single, “Wasted” was another top hit. She received more awards and recognitions but she wasn’t complacent with her production just yet. She then made another return appearance on American Idol and sang “I’ll Stand by You” evoking a standing ovation. Underwood went on to sing with Brad Paisley and release yet another album called Carnival Ride that had four songs get to the top of the charts.

After two years had passed, Underwood even released her fourth album called Blown Away in 2012. Her song “Good Girl” gained much popularity and embodied her journey as a singer. In 2013, Underwood took on her first acting role in The Sound of Music on NBC. Most recently, Underwood is reminding us all that she still has incredible talent. She released her fifth album called Storyteller and “Smoke Break” was the highlight single on the track. Underwood went for her dream and pursued something that she genuinely just loved to do, and now she is showing all of us that hard work pays off.
