When comes to being environmentally savvy and eco-aware, there are many people out there who talk the talk, but they don’t necessarily walk the walk.

Enter Dorka Keehn’s book, “Eco Amazons”, a book dedicated to 20 women who, as the subtitle on the cover of the book suggests, are “Transforming the World.”

When comes to being environmentally savvy and eco-aware, there are many people out there who talk the talk, but they don’t necessarily walk the walk. Enter Dorka Keehn‘s book, Eco Amazons, a book dedicated to 20 women who, as the subtitle on the cover of the book suggests, are “Transforming the World.” From chef Alice Waters (of Chez Panisse fame) and her Edible Schoolyard to Hunter Lovins from Natural Capitalism Solutions, to Agnes Denes a pioneer of the ecological art movement, the book tells the story of women who are talking the talk and walking the walk — and igniting change and as the title suggests, “transforming the world.” In the book that hit the shelves in early May, Keehn (a journalist and activist) conducts interviews which are complimented by photography by Colin Finlay. Take a peek at the book in the video below:

The book is an all-around resource to inspire and to show you that women are actually doing something to ignite change. By doing so, they are achieving recognition for their work. Setting the tone for the book is a forward written by Julia Butterfly Hill, a renowned activist who lived in a redwood tree known as “Luna” for 738 days. Other women who are featured in the book include urban farmer Majora Carter, founder of Sustainable South Bronx and Julia Bonds a real-life coal miner’s daughter and director of Coal River Mountain Watch, an organization that brings awareness to the destructive mining practice known as “mountaintop removal”. Sure, reading the book can make you feel that you aren’t really doing anything in the realm of the eco-world, but at the same time, it will definitely awaken your inner eco warrior.
