What is social distancing?

With the growing pandemic of COVID-19, everyone who is considered, “non-essential” personnel is expected to engage in social distancing.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, social distancing is defined as, “remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.”

What this means is that the people who are not completely out of a job are working from home. CNBC has reported that the number of people currently working from home due to COVID-19 is in the “millions.”

What this means for us:

We here at ENTITY have been partnered with a blog called, Musings since its inception. This blog is run and curated by our sustainability editor, Susan Rockefeller. The blog publishes weekly profiles on new innovations in sustainability in the sectors of fashion, technology, food, art, and advocacy.

Rockefeller is a writer and documentarian whose work has been featured on HBO, PBS, and the Discovery Channel. She also has released collections of fine jewelry that feature products that carry her message, “Protect What is Precious.”

Recently, Rockefeller sent out this announcement about what Musings is doing at this time:

“Many of us are working from home and experiencing a new normal. During this time of uncertainty, Musings has decided to continue publishing. We all should now, perhaps more than ever, inspire action toward a better world. While we are physically abiding by instructions to partake in social distancing, we are prompted to keep connecting digitally to our community. May you all stay healthy yet kind, informed yet optimistic, and use this time to reflect and recharge.”

Rockefeller ends her announcement with a quote from Galen Guengerich, senior minister of All Souls Unitarian Church in New York and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. In a recent statement in The Washington Post, Guengerich stated:

“When we acknowledge what we have in common with other people, we tap into a powerful source. It’s what has enabled us over centuries to become civilized. If we stay civilized, if we keep the connections that unite us strong, we will together make it through.”

ENTITY Mag is similarly staying in operation during the COVID-19 and will still be posting regularly on our social media channels.
