ENTITY explains how to take good Instagram photos by yourself.

Sometimes, you don’t have any friends around to help you out. If you’re a social media influencer, in need of a good headshot or simply wanting to kill a few hours, ENTITY has some tips on how to take good Instagram photos by yourself.

1 Use the Timer

Most iPhones and Androids have a timer that allows you to take photos without having to click the button. Here’s how to access it.

According to WikiHow, the Android Google Camera app has a timer under settings. Click the Camera icon, then settings, then timer in the bottom right corner. You can then choose between two, five and 10 seconds of time delay.

iPhones also have a timer on the camera app. At the top, there should be something that looks like a clock next to the “HDR” button at the top header of the screen. After clicking the clock, you can choose between a three and 10 second delay.

Now you don’t need another person to take photos of you.

2 Make a Tripod

Of course, you can’t take photos of yourself with an unstable camera. If it shakes or falls, it will look blurry and unprofessional. So make sure to use a tripod or create a make-shift tripod out of your surroundings. Books, bookstands, tables and other flat surfaces can cement your phone in place.

When you’re taking the photo of yourself, mark a place for you to stand as a “test” spot. Then check the photo after it comes out. If you’re not centered, adjust the placement marker so you’re more centered. If the camera is tilted or at a weird angle, adjust the camera.

3 Schedule Your Photoshoot

Your photos will come out looking their best if you schedule them properly. Improve Photography LLC explains that the best time to take photos are the moments right before and after “golden hour,” or the hour during the sunset or sunrise before it gets dark.

These times “will give you the best combination of soft, direction light, and bouncing, ambient light. The light will be warm, but not distracting. The dynamic range of the scene will be a little bit smaller, meaning that your camera will better capture the brights and the darks in the image.”

But if you don’t plan ahead, you won’t be able to take advantage of this light. Make sure you use this natural light to your advantage, so you won’t be forced to use grainy artificial light for your photos.

After applying these tips, it’s fairly easy to learn how to take good Instagram photos by yourself. Simply check and adjust the camera as necessary. It might take a little longer than it would if you had extra photography help, but you’ll pat yourself on the back for a job well done.
