LOS ANGELES— Homeowners in Los Angeles County have the exciting opportunity to cash in on a $2,000 rebate for environmentally-friendly GreenPoint Rated upgrades that also improve their homes’ property values!

GreenPoint Rated offers an upgrade system that not only helps Los Angeles residents make their homes more environmentally friendly and energy efficient but, as a third-party sustainability certification, increases homes’ property values. Independent studies show that homes with green labels sell faster, are valued up to 30% higher than homes that are not certified, and retain their value in the face of downward market trends.

And there has never been a better time to get a GreenPoint Rated label for your home. With the green label rebate program, homeowners in Los Angeles County can get up to $2000 cash back on a green label. This rebate program is only available until the end of this year!

“We can still see a consistent trend that third-party certification continues to result in a higher sales price, even during the past year when home sales were down,” Dakota Gale, Earth Advantage Institute‘s manager of sustainable finance, told the Los Angeles Times.

Earth Advantage’s study found that existing homes with independent green certifications like GreenPoint Rated sold for 30% more than uncertified homes. Newly built homes with green certifications sold for 8% percent more. These homes also sold an average of 18 days faster than their uncertified counterparts!

Gardner Johnson’s report showed that certified town homes increased in sale price as uncertified home sale prices declined. On top of that, the added value only goes up over time. In 2007, certified town homes had 4% higher premiums over uncertified properties. In 2008, the advantage increased to 16%; certified town homes appreciated 8% in annual sale prices as uncertified properties declined 4%.

Even if you are not ready to sell, you can still reap the financial and environmental benefits of certification. GreenPoint Rated representatives will walk you through reducing energy use and water consumption. The upgrade will also ensure that your home has the best indoor air quality possible.

If you want to lower utility costs and invest in your home, Sierra Club Green Home encourages you to learn more about getting GreenPoint Rated and taking advantage of the Green Label Rebate Program while this opportunity is still available!
