Scout, The Skillful Maverick (ISTP)

Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, Perceiving

Overview

As The Skillful Maverick, Scouts are the whiz kids everyone needs around that can somehow fix bikes, build planes, paint portraits and race cars! Natural troubleshooters, Scouts are the first to lend a thoughtful, calculated yet creative approach to problem-solving. Scouts love mechanics and instructions but veer off the guided path to create something newer and even more beautiful. Scouts are spontaneous, independent and highly adaptable. And they only make up 5% to 6% of the population, so they are relatively rare.

Scouts are careful observers and great to have around in case of emergency since they are action-adventure types and have the tools to properly follow through. Expect Scouts to be carrying tool kits, first aid kits, and pretty much every mini-kit they have received as countless birthday and holiday presents from friends and family. Despite being reserved, Scouts are in touch with their surroundings and present in their actions. They also resist regimentation, preferring a more spontaneous, open schedule.

Famous ISTPs: Amelia Earheart, Katherine Hepburn, Milla Jovovich, Olivia Wilde, Michelle Rodriguez, Venus Williams

Strengths

ISTPs are logical and analytical thinkers, seeking truth in whatever is around them. No, they won't take your word for it, they must figure it out for themselves.

Curious, creative Scouts also have a unique ability to think quickly and use whatever tools they have on hand to find an immediate solution. Whether it’s painting with morning coffee grounds when they forgot to buy more art supplies or using their T-shirt as an impromptu tourniquet during a mountain hike, Scouts prove innovatively handy over and over again. Scouts are great with their hands and excel in skilled crafts and trades. Due to their immense understanding of mechanics, Scouts feel confident as daredevils. They are girls who never show up unprepared for the unexpected.

Common Strengths: Creative, Analytical, Observant, Objective, Self-motivated, Intelligent, Independent

Weaknesses

Despite being amazingly talented and helpful, Scouts can, at times, be confused or perplexed by emotions, since emotions don’t come with a tangible toolkit. Scouts have to learn to harness a little bit of their soft side and their inner feels to truly surpass their already outstanding skills. Detached Scout can seem aloof or cruel to the outsider who doesn’t know how sincere they really are. Scouts are also very selective about their company and can seem exclusive or rude for leaving people out. However, Scouts aren’t trying to be mean -- just practical. Scouts should take note of their more emotionally in touch friends and open up their hearts a little since it’s impossible to know what undiscovered skills someone can obtain and learn from new, different friends. Despite their aloofness, Scouts are very nonjudgmental and tolerant of differences. Her curiosity outweighs her closed-off public persona.

Common Weaknesses: Detached, Lost in Concentration, Shy, Insensitive, Too Private, Commitment Phobes, Overly Risky, Easily Bored

Romantic Relationships

Scouts are true handywomen when it comes to relationships. Whether they are fixing the stove, the roof, building a new table or making a new recipe for dinner, the do-it-all is a much-revered partner. Scouts, in addition to being handy, are calm, cool and collected ladies that revel in being true problem solvers and approaching conflict with poise and even curiosity. “Hmmmm maybe I can stop watching HGTV’s ‘Flipped’ during dinner -- I do see your point,” might be something Scout would reconsider.

Scouts, however handy, are not that great with grand romantic gestures and flowery proses. If being showered with love notes is in someone’s criteria for love, they might not mesh with practical Scout. Instead, Scout shows her love by creating helpful items for the home, for their partners and maintaining physical harmony.

Friendships

Scouts are literally so helpful and useful as friends. Thanks to their boundless ingenuity ISTPs are one of the friends you want if disaster strikes to carry you to safety. Guarantee that Scouts already have their Zombie Apocalypse kit at the ready.

Scouts usually make their closest friends by bonding over shared skills or hobbies since they aren’t the strongest at emotional bonds. In a Scout’s own funny way, they are showing their love and care through their crafts! General, thoughtful, adventurous Scouts are amazing ladies to add to any crew, squad or gathering of friends.

Career Path & Workplace Habits

Desks are not for the mechanically-skilled Scout, that is unless she’s designing and carving a one-of-a-kind white oak desk for a client’s new office! Scouts thrive in non-traditional environments such as wood shops, jewelry studios, masonry and metal work. Scouts need tangible tasks that involve material items. Theoretical brainstorming about products or financial goals doesn’t really sit well with her. Scouts love physical activity but prefer physical labor jobs that involve thought care and creativity. She does not want to be on a factory line or have one, mindless task. Scouts are incredibly talented and are able to achieve high regard as artisanal crafts seem more in demand than ever in an increasingly digital age.
