Made in 1939, the Wizard of Oz was one of the first films to use Technicolor. Its fabrication of the colorful fantastical of Dorothy and her friends have made it one of the most iconic films of all time. In the 75 plus years since its creation, people have continued to watch the movie, many people citing it as their favorite movie. Here are the 5 lessons we’ve learned from countless trips to OZ.
Despite the many trials and tribulations Dorothy encounters , she continues to be kind to her friends and the people she encounters. She is welcoming and helpful to anyone she meets. Her keeping her heart open to the world allows her to meet some new and wonderful people in the world.
Despite all the nay-sayers Dorothy meets in Kansas she still dreams and has her head in the clouds. As we see , her dreams do end up coming true. Even while she is Oz though she still keeps dreaming, this time of home. She teaches us that we should keep dreaming no matter how big or how small. Because maybe if you’re lucky, you’ll get to go over your rainbow.
Perhaps one of the most heart wrenching moments of the film is when Dorothy says Goodbye to her new friends. Even though she is trying to return to her family, she realizes she has found her own family in her friends , Tin Man , Scarecrow and The Cowardly Lion. This is perhaps what makes it the most bittersweet. Your home doesn’t just have to be a place , it can be some people.
Through the many new and even frightening experiences Dorothy has in OZ she never lets them get the best of her. Even in her lowest moments she is still brave enough to keep her goal of home in mind. Despite being terrified of the witch she faces her fears to save her friends. She does not let her fears define her, rather she lets her bravery do so.
Lets be honest, we all have lusted over those ruby shoes at some point in our life.
