LOS ANGELES– The Natural History Museum in Los Angeles hosts events and exhibits that fascinate and educate children and adults alike. Since 1910, the museum has made ancient history, modern biology, visual art, and the performing arts interesting and accessible to the public. Now the museum is putting its amazing resources toward Sierra Club Green Home’s favorite cause: sustainability.
Sundays at the museum are now “Sustainable Sundays.” Each week the museum will host an event designed to breathe life into the familiar mantra “think global, act local.” The events aim to facilitate conversations on conservation, and work to connect visitors with organizations dedicated to environmental causes.
Sound too much like a stuffy lecture? Think again! These events are designed to be lively and interactive. It is more than an opportunity to listen to experts; it is a chance to offer your opinions and insights into environmental issues affecting daily life in Los Angeles and around the world. Spend your Sundays brainstorming solutions to issues such as water conservation, climate change, and protecting biodiversity.
The next program, on May 27, is “Urban Edibles.” Come out and meet local groups working for urban gardens! Make sure to bring your gardening questions so you can get advice from master gardeners on growing organic food at home. The event will also include a tour of the museum’s beautiful Edible Garden. End the by planting an herb of your own to keep. Urban Edibles will take place on the first level of the museum in the Grand Foyer.
