Disney Princesses are the epitome of class and royalty. America considers the five classic movies: Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and The Beast, and The Little Mermaid a national treasure for little girls around the nation. This is where Alice X. Zhang comes in: revolutionizing America’s classic princesses!

The royal girls are very beautiful, (arguably) intelligent, witty, and are always rescued by their handsome prince. It’s the fairy tale ending we all love!

But there’s a catch:

The classics are also very White, very perfect, very unrealistically proportioned, very soft…and did I mention, very White?

But artist Alice X. Zhang is changing the game!

The Chinese-American creative has worked with Marvel, Lucasfilm, DC Film, and much more representing the muscle of femininity!

Zhang portrays classic princesses in her work as strong, fierce characters. She defies the White norm and produces work that elicits real, raw emotion that we all need in our lives!

We all know Mulan is not a princess. But we love the character so much, we just pretend she is! And Zhang does our warrior princess justice by adding a bloody scar on her left cheek!

That’s the badass Mulan I always imagined!

I mean, come on! She fights the entire movie and manages to keep a smooth, unbattered face? Yeah, right!

The #notmylittlemermaid movement did not stop Zhang from producing this wonderful tribute to Halle Bailey’s casting. You may have your own opinion, but personally, I think it was time for a change!

Look, giving Ariel a tan and red dreadlocks is what little girls around our country need to see!

Plus, melanin looks pretty good on the character, if you ask me!

Long Live The Dragon & The Ladies of The North

Now, let’s leave the comforts of fairy tales and jump into the ice and fire!

The ladies of Game of Thrones have made it on my list of princesses and turned queens!

Alice X. Zhang creates each one with raw emotion. She beautifully portrays them with a face of fear, revenge, or sorrow.

Real emotions for really strong women.

The ice queen has eyes of a storm! And Zhang was able to capture the full essence of her fierceness.

The ice queen has eyes of a storm! Zhang does an amazing job of giving us the Elsa we deserve.

And I don’t think anyone wants to mess with her!

Zendaya embodied the classic Cinderella story at the 2019 Met Gala. Her presence did not go unnoticed! She sported the gown, carriage, and even her own fairy godmother in the beloved fairy tale!

Alice X. Zhang so perfectly illustrated the fullness of the moment with Zendaya wrapped in magic and her brown skin!

But, keep your eyes peeled, she’s not finished yet!

The world will soon recognize and appreciate Alice X. Zhang’s work! Her ambition is sure to reach higher heights!

And I’m positive she will continue using her platform to empower women from all walks of life!
