Hoverboards, the attempt to bring nostalgia back from the 80’s when we saw Marty McFly riding around on one in the supposed 2000’s. That hoverboard resembled a skateboard but hovered in the air rather than relied on wheels to move around.

Hoverboards today, however, are more of a brand name than an actual hoverboard. It’s a mix between a skateboard in the sense that it’s a board and has wheels and a segway in the sense that you use our own weight to propel it forward. Some of the more expensive hoverboards can cost up to $600 while the lower ends tend to be $200. Either way, that’s a big chunk of change, so before buying it’s worth considering what exactly are you getting when you buy a hoverboard. Is it really worth it?

1 How much does it cost?

As you know, these boards can cost between $200-$600. If you are willing to spend around that much for this device then the cost shouldn’t be a big deal. They can all come in different prices but you’re getting the same product.

2 Where are you buying it from?

It’s best to buy the hoverboard from the home country you’re from to prevent any sort of ambiguity of return policies. For example, if you’re in the US and you’re trying to buy a hoverboard from Japan, the return policies may be a little different than you’re used to. Not to mention it will take way longer to get to you.

3 How often will you use it? 

Surprisingly, using a hoverboard requires leg muscle. If you’re not very active then you’ll get tired of using it fairly quickly. If this is going to deter you from using it, then I would suggest keeping your $200-$600.

Do you want it because everyone else has it or do you want it because you genuinely want it? It’s important to recognize the difference because trends come and go. If your interest in this board will leave along with everyone else then you should reconsider this purchase.

This question can save you a lot of time and money. If you know anyone that has one of these boards, you can try it out through them before committing to purchase it.

If you were to buy a hoverboard and accidentally break it or it didn’t come the way you purchased it or anything goes wrong, you need to be able to return it. If you’re gonna pay a couple hundred dollars for something, you want it to work.

7 How long is the battery life?

Is the battery poop? You need to know that before you buy as well. What’s the point of buying something if you can’t even use it for all that long? For something like this, you need to be able to use it for hours on end in order to truly utilize it the way the manufacturer intended.

So after you read all this advice, you’re still wondering, “Is it worth it?” According to the internet, the answer is yes. Hoverboards are really fun. They’re a refreshing way to go from place to place without any of the established forms of transportation like walking, boarding, using your scooter or your bike. Once you get the hang of it, hoverboarding can be a really fun past time. If you’re gonna use it all the time and it’s of good quality then yes, these are so worth it.
