Entity explains why we're stoked about Sia and Maddie Ziegler's upcoming movie: sister.

If you’re a fan of Sia and her music videos for “Chandelier,” “Elastic Heart,” and “Cheap Thrills,” all of which feature Maddie Ziegler from Dance Moms, the duo has announced a new project we think you’ll be stoked about. While speaking on a panel at the international film festival, Venice Days, Sia shared plans to release a full-length movie starring Ziegler.

While the artist has not revealed much about the movie’s plot so far, we do know it will be based on a one-page short story she wrote almost a decade ago. Sia called upon her friend and children’s book author, Dallas Clayton, to co-write the script. According to Sia, the duo spent 3 and a half weeks on her sofa, mapping out the story. The screenplay is titled “Sister.”

Sia confessed she has wanted to make a movie for a long time, but was “too embarrassed to tell anyone.” After directing her critically-acclaimed music video, “Chandelier,” the musician gained confidence in her directorial skills and began to push forward on the film project. Lucky for us!

While Maddie Ziegler typically plays proxy for Sia in her music videos – the mysterious artist is rarely seen in public without her signature platinum wig obscuring her face – Sia assured fans that the film will not be a vanity project.

We are excited to see this dynamic pair working together in a new context, and we can’t wait to learn more about the movie’s plot. While we feel more than ready to move beyond tan leotards and wigs, we do hope the film retains the same intensity and raw emotion that have made Sia’s music videos so powerful.
